state of confusion

What I imagine
is the young woman
who saw the world as sun-gold.
She pushed soft pathways into sand
then curled with the sea
as footprints vanished;

or a night fully illuminated
by moonrise
skipping on whitecaps;
when she was cursed
on the cliffs of loss,
blue with waning songs
of virginity;

she embraced the chill,
her crimson-stained clothes
left to rot on rocks,
to the sea, the blackened sea -
dressed fine
in vines of seaweed,
a mermaid of the moon.

First of all, I loved the word you coined, "Lunation"--and it worked well as the title.

This was very stirring and you truly are a "mermaid of the moon".

Excellent piece of poetic writing!

considering the dedication and eliza's response, i fear a darker backstory to this than i dare ask.

the images were beautiful, but like all the old songs traced with sadness and loss, although not necessarily unhappiness.

thank you for an escape.

Thank you all for your lovely comments!

Yes, this has a dark side to it. About a friend I lost many years ago...

Thanks again,

Corinne

Corrine, this is beautiful, with a touch of sadness.
You can write such heart-touching poetry, Friend.
Thank you so much for sharing with us.
