Generations or Lumps of Clay IV

Dust, old.
Yellowed now from years of light,
The coarse aged paper smells
of Knowledge. It is a musty moldy smell -
New England attic, not cleaned since Civil War.
Blow on the cover, see the cloud of dust;
it lifts and swirls away, each grain a day.
The cloud moves across the room and settles
Elsewhere - time, age, transferred;
Cast away age and be young again,
The author's words are fresh and youthful;
No matter, her great-granddaughter owns the house.
Overcast skys today - not unlike those she so often saw;
As the faint smell of the sea only a few miles away
enters Her nose along with the scent of bygone times
the Child gazes in awe at the book.
Dainty, delicate hands, not yet tanned,
turn a page and then another;
Big blue eyes widen in surprise,
Her name in a bold hand written - Her namesake -
Great-great-granddaughter; over Her shoulder the spirit stands,
and Watches with pleasure as Hher great history She discovers.

You've created a poignant, vivid scene--enjoyed!

Stare into this deepening blue,
while the breeze says a secret."
