~*Destiny's Nightmare*~

The walls are teflon coated slick
no stairway to the top
of this airless, murky chamber
formed of slippery rock

this must be an ugly trick
the sloaping bottom slides me deep
as I try to keep my grip
no soul hears me scream or weep

when will this tortured feeling end
where will the terror lead?
trapped in destiny's nightmare
"get me out" my loud shrieks plead

~*****~

but I'll get out, I swear I will
through grit and guts, you'll see
I'll grab that teasing rope that dangles
and pull my conscience free

one last raw scream, my body shakes
pillows and blankets fly
the world spins on it's edge
for a nightmare's battle cry

thankful now, I'm jarred awake
pulled to safety from the deep
but as I lay my head back down
no longer can I sleep
~*~

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Lyra, my heart goes out to you, sweet friend, I know how you feel because as a little boy I suffered nightmares EVERY night, and worried if I fell asleep I would be dead so I tried to stay awake and suffered long insomnia! (sad sigh) I hope now these nightmares are all gone and now you dream of love and beautiful things, sweet friend, I send angel hugs of strength your way, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

you do know that you type in whisper to me, lady?

"sleeeeeep..." they say.
"SLEEP?" I RAGE.
"I'VE BEEN SLEEPING ALL MY LIFE."

"sleeeeeep..." through tide
arms open wide
and drown you in the ocean's swoon.
"sleeeeeep..." through sigh
of aching sides
of home that breathes through the monsoon...

love you Lyra...
you? make me feel strong.

Noah... thanks so much for your reply and your angel hugs...
I do have many nightmares... but I usually don't remember them for very long... but when I do and they wake me up like this, I always feel stronger for having survived

Karen... thanks for the lovely verse...
and because I make you feel strong,I feel that I should answer you in kind

and I shall haunt you through the night
my whispery voice is feather light
instead of well earned beauty sleep
you'll spend this night, just counting sheep

Lyra~ Your emotion hits like a ton of bricks in this poem. The journey you are on is one I could not imagine. You are so strong to write about it and share it with all of us.
My prayers are with you.May God give you peace...Paul

Thanks so much for your very kind words, Paul.
Yes this is the nightmare that I am living, but it also keeps me awake at night and I know that I would probably be healthier if I got more sleep...
But I keep reaching for that rope which is teasingly dangled before me and I'm so frustrated because it keeps slipping out of my grasp...
Thanks so much for your prayers

Thanks Ed...
I don't sleep much anymore because I'm afraid I'll miss something!!!
And when I finally do get some sleep, a nightmare usually wakes me up... so here I am sitting at my computer at 1 AM while my husband snores across the room in his chair...
Thanks for your reply

Lyra, you described the nightmare very vivdly. Now, I've got to go read another poem before I go to bed. HaHa!!
Seriously, I pray that you will be able to get some rest. Gary asks me every night when he calls me if I'm getting enough rest. He knows that I stay  up late hours on my computer, too.
You know what I just thought of....when Gary and I do get married and are together, I'm going to have to break this habit of staying up so late on the computer.
(I've got a feeling that it won't be a hard habit to break when he's with me all the time, though !!Ha!Ha!)

Thanks for the vivid portrayal Lyra , now I have to remember to breathe. They say you dream the opposite to reality, so maybe your nightmares are good news about your health.

Oh, Lyra, you done REAL good with this one! That has to be how it feel, trapped in a recurring nightmare of frustration. It takes one hell of a lot of courage to face that....fortunately you have it!

Beautiful writing.............

I lived in a haunted residence and I swear that all the years I lived there while in nursing school, I never slept a full night! I had horrific nightmares just as you described! The stories I could tell you of that place! I am an intuitive, so you can imagine what it was like for someone like me!

Great poem! Sorry you have had such horrible nightmares! A sweet little chipmunk like you should be dreaming of enchanted forests of fairies and unicorns! tehe
