Ollie-Ollie Oxen-free Ollie-Ollie Oxen-free, that’s what you’d play with me. When we were kids in Salem’s realm, living on the edge of town. Vet-housing was our humble ‘bode down near the end of Mission’s road. Though we would play and have a lark, as siblings we caught days of dark. You’d hit and pinch and bother me, just like a brother thought to be. And I was perfect all the time, when boys would beat you I would climb Upon a power trip I guess, I’d grab a stick that I thought best, And swing at them, until they’d cede, to let you go just short of bleed. We’d head on home, tail twixt your limbs, and I would feel proud of my whims. Yet, now all grown, I know you not, it’s like a bro, I haven’t got. I wonder if you ever want for bygone days, when we would romp. What if they’d known, as they do now, identify your “Holy Cow!” Your ups, your downs, flamboyant swings, antagonistic spread of wings, Might it have ended differently, if they had known just who you be. ©November 16, 2002 Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

This is lovely, Virginia... It captures the essence of a sibling relationship so very well! ![]() Lyra |
