Toerag, for many of you who didn't know til now ,
Has an egg farm in the Alabama deep south.
He has a hundred pullets, and ten roosters, who
Fertilize the eggs, as they are supposed to do.

Toe tracked each rooster, and if he failed to perform,
Would find himself at dinner heated oven warm.
But this took too much time on Toerag's part,
To sort out the laggards from those who had heart.

So around each rooster's neck Toe hung a bell
Each bell sounded different, so Toerag could tell,
Which roosters were chasing the pullets in the yard,
And which ones would be dinner if they didn't work hard.

Now pullets are shy, and don't like rooster intentions,
So they learned to run when they heard Toerag's invention,
And thereby avoided the quick peck and runs,
Of the roosters who acted like Toerag having fun.

Toe's favorite pecker was named Balladeer,
A wise old bird who'd been there many years.
Toe noticed ‘Deer's bell had stopped it's ringing,
A distressing thought, Toe's axe would be swinging.

Toe found Balladeer held the bell in his beak,
‘Deer learned he could score if he quietly sneaked
Up on each young pullet before she could escape,
While the other roosters remained in a celibate state.

Toe was so proud of ‘Deer that they toured the nation,
Balladeer became the country's overnight sensation.
He received awards from every state and county,
Recognizing ‘Deers ingenious plan for hen mounting.

‘Deer received awards of every shape and size
Including the prestigious Pulletsurprise,
And the most famous award of them all,
The No Bell Piece Prize, which now hangs in the hall.

----

That Toe and  'Deer sure make a good team.

I read about this in the Farmer's Almanac, under the "Don't let yer offspring be like this" column.  Thanks for the compliments.  I need 'em, as I get beat down by those two bullies on a regular basis.
