Sitting on the rocks Taking off her shoes and socks Her cheeks are now wet Facing away from sunset, Trying to find peace Watching the growing dark east As light slips away At the ending of the day. “Tell me Mister D why so much sorrow must be.” I just look at her For I have no good answer She’s expecting none, Words won’t make events undone. As night takes the day Lights now shine across the bay, Lights are Earth bound stars Comets on the bridge are cars Going place to place With appointments off they race. Mist will rise up soon Before the sliver of moon And darkness in now complete. “Put shoes on your feet, there’s broken glass in the street.” “In a bit I will the water on toes I’ll feel, pretending once more I have a summer in store Going back in time At least in my dreamers mind.” It’s a hidden spot Beside factories forgot Of long ago past In previous money crash. Steel and red brick With weeds that have grown up quick, To hide the decay. It’s where city children play, Teenagers learn life And mourners cleanse sorrow’s strife. Once reality, Now a place of fantasy And washing out memory. Gloom |
