Before the drained tinge of Autumn's pennons sheer and pallor, break like combers into Winter's wall, yet after daylight decamps in Fall's retreat towards December's dark cold hand lay that lenient parcel when the air is amiable, natures temperate sigh mollifies the human condition. In that transient asylum are two moments I wish I could reclaim; . . . 1966 The end of the driveway whose pebbled members so often sushed terrors warning that my father was home, where it met the asphalt lane which would lead to the urban schoolyard and new friends were the low hedges of youth's incarceration, the bounds of a frowning boy's world. At the crisp cleave of the clinquant leaves I drew back at that Autumns adolescent orphery. It was Duchess my constant companion, Duchess who I bought with tears at eight. No week passed without us hearing "a boy and his dog" from neighbors who too much minded their business. I, from that day on bikeless in my escape stayed the loyal dog with pointing, foot stomping and admonitions. She, her vibrant tail's excitement shook her whole being anticipating a joined adventure, slunk in befuddlement at what sin caused her master's dismissal, her head hung. Oh Duchess, your honest eyes, your loyal oath, your tongue whose generous slattherings even now can almost be felt by I, an unworthy Ulysses. You could not join me. I had to go towards pain. To break hearts, have mine broken, to antagonize authority, to make and lose all three times. To exile. You stayed with Mother and the property and I'm told waited in the same spot watching for 10 more years. . . 1990 Phototropically I am drawn in early Autumn's eve to my own window from the recess of the dark. It is my wife (so much so then) washing dishes and addressing over her shoulder one child or another. The oldest, seven, lip syncing a book her cleft chin bobbling and full auburn hair whose irrepressible ringlets framed a face which even today can't be lied to. The boy twin, wound tighter than we thought healthy chasing around his five year old birthmate with stops to tease his older and younger sister. She, three, still trapped in her high chair till a majority of the food left on the plastic plate reach either stomach, hands or face. That house, that home so alive with laughter, complaints, television, light and movement it froze me. I never knew such warmth, such unbridled love. Duchess will you ever forgive me? Children will you ever forgive us? Will I? [This message has been edited by RSWells (11-05-2002 09:55 PM).] |

Richard...children and pets love us innocently and unconditionally...its us adults who need to relearn that innocence and love ourselves the same way. The depth of your emotions in these offerings are well felt...because they are well written and most of all sincere. jm No one has ever shown me how to see the world the way I see it now ... |

Richard Both these snapshots in time are so vivid, so emotive and honest. A family and a dog...both so important to those times of your life, but now...and most important, you must forgive yourself the changes. You are a fine writer. |

(big hugggssssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, children and pets and all the simple beauties of life can teach us all so much to again embrace us with the teachings of unconditional love that can slowly heal the world with its song! (sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, know you are loved and can be forgiven as He always teaches forgiveness, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Richard, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |
