Is this the way you traveled down? Your journey of great pain; Yes I see the bloodstain Where droplets splattered on the ground, I hear the whip crack Flaying across your back, Echoing with it’s horrid sound Comes from another time, But still it shakes the mind, In it’s rhythmic and bloody pound. Virgin so pure of heart, On rack pulled you apart, Dismembered your body did bleed, Strength of your conviction Firm in dedication Life transcended the spirit freed. Your road was much harder, You became our martyr, You not us that did paid the cost, Remained true till last breath, Fearlessly faced your death, Steadfastly so all was not lost, Broken body so frail To sea with pure white sail, On waves beneath soaring dove wings Her guide across water Her saviors true daughter, Now in his holy presence sings. Gloom St. Devota tortured and died on the rack in 303 AD during the persecutions of Diocletian |

Except for what you've explained, I didn't know the history. But, I do believe this sort of thing goes on constantly, perhaps in a lesser degree, and yet, still the same. You captured her pain and torture and determination quite well. And, I especially liked the last two lines: "Her Savior's true daughter, now in His holy presence sings." Enjoyed a great deal. My prior post hasn't come up yet and I'd like to edit it to say, figuratively speaking, for none are having their bodies torn apart, nor, put on a rack. However, many grandmothers, raising their own grandchildren in Oakland, CA., for one instance, seem to go through this same kind of strength of conviction, often getting killed, by standing strong, in neighborhoods too scary to venture out into. Oakland is only one of hundreds, I am sure, across the nation. With this edit, I am saying I do not mean to ~demean~ the character you write of. But, similarities are striking in today's society.
