Cynics By Larry Chadwick Hope you can enjoy the collection of poems I found that I wrote in 1993! I know a cynic who, in spite of it, is a friend, With her there is no such thing as a good end. Cynics take that kind of approach to life, It might go something like this if she were your wife: Dear, I learned today that I am p.g., This pregnancy will really be hard on me. (Morning sickness won’t seem near as tough, as putting up with this continually complaining stuff.) Look at our son isn’t he a doll? I can’t stand the thought of listening to him ball. Changing diapers that will be a pain, Rinsing all that yucky stuff down the drain. There goes our son, look at him crawl, He’ll probably bump his head on the wall. Next think you know his first steps we’ll see, He’ll probably fall and scrape his knee. Then our boy will talk for the first time, It won’t be long we’ll listen to him whine. For a while we’ll be able to spell, After that he’ll repeat everything we tell. Pretty soon he’ll be off to school, If I can teach him not to drool. He’ll bring home a friend, probably a boy, Someone else to break another toy. Then it’s the girls he’ll want to see, I know by then he’ll start ignoring me. First thing you know they’ll be real thick, This line of thinking is making me sick. Off to college eventually he’ll go, So we can see how much he doesn’t know. His schooling will cost us a ton, A lot of good that will do me when he’s done. Before you know it he’ll bring home a wife, I won’t even be a small part of his life. This whole concept is making me mad, I knew that being pregnant would be bad. You said that you wanted us to be one, But not if it means we’ll have a son. If you won’t put this idea on the shelf, Then you just have the baby yourself. March 9, 1993 If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. (big hugggsssssss) Oh Larry, this is so very sad and true how many act this way, I love being positive about many things and I heard a study too married couples who think optimistic live longer and healthier than pessimistic ones! (sigh) This is heartfelt, sweet friend, always believe in the best to come, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Larry, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

There are people who can never see the up side of anything. They're almost as bad as cheerful people in the morning! Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

Bummer! But I think this is a pessimist you describe, not a cynic (I know one really well). |

Lyra, I know a few. But try not to hang around too much! And thank you. ps, I know exactly what you mean! And thanks for such generous words. Kacy, I'll bet you have! And thanks. Noah, Thanks. But hypochondriacs live longer than us all! Nan, Except morning people are quite pious! And thanks. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

Ethel, You are always so sweet! Thanks. Krawdad, When I read this after ten years that is exactly what I decided. But left as it was written. Smart catch too! And thanks. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |
