Perhaps Love

Perhaps love is a destroyer
Seeking its revenge
On vulnerable hearts it strives
Placed deeply to binge

Perhaps love is a fool
A liar through cracked teeth
Pouring promises and vows
A black dove with no peace

Perhaps love is a failure
A negative impact on the heart
A blockage sent to stop pumping
The soul unable to bleed and restart.

Perhaps love is a rival
An enemy not long laid to rest
The memory of a tear deeply stained
And a burden forever buried in the chest.

Perhaps love is a carrier
A brewery for heartaches disease
Causing one to drip with woe
And cry to God with greedy pleas

Perhaps love is a satanic ritual
To streak one with numbing pain
A charred fire with no light
Guiding hearts to rekindle in vain.

I truly enjoyed every stanza of this poem. Standing alone, each one is packed with brilliance in unique speculation.

The nature of "love" is a tricky subject, indeed. I always enjoy a pessimistic view of it.

It is very refreshing to every now and then see a poem that is pesimmistic (sp?) on love. There are thousands of poems praising love, but very few that put love down.

Love can seem so complex at times.

I loved the poem. This was truly amazing. I think that I am a fan now haha. One poem= fan
