This was a poem I had written for a youth hostel in Toronto. They wanted something that helped describe what they do and issues that alot of teens need help identifying or dealing with. There are so many issues That we have to face Not the type of issues That we can erase Having safe sex Is something to pride You don’t want AIDS From which victims have died Sexually Transmitted Diseases Another big scare Having a baby A responsibility to share A bed to sleep in Food to eat A place to shower This isn’t the street There are many hostels To which you can go To shelter from the rain Wind, hail or snow Just pick up the phone Call just one Try it out It could be fun Meeting new people Food to eat A place to sleep Let’s beat the street |

i'm just curious about one little thing. why would this be for a youth hostel? do you mean youth shelter instead? seeing as a hostel is an inexpensive place for young people to stay when travelling abroad. more of a boarding house, as opposed to a shelter. you are charged to stay in a hostel. it's not a free shower or bed or free food, and they aren't geared towards homeless teens and young adults. sorry. ::shrugs:: i'm just a little confused. /jen/ what if they gave a war, and nobody came... |

Jen's more than just a little confused. I like this, but like she said, hostels are just places where youth can crash for cheaper than a motel. Although the words "hostel" and "shelter" are metrically identical, which means you can easily just substitute the word "hostel" for "shelter" with no negative repercussions. You chose an effective form for this poem, something simple for a simple message. Much enjoyed, and the message is an important one. Parasite Learn to place poetry before people |
