A little place inside my head

There, in a valley of green it lies,
Forever frozen in its solemn pose,
Surrounded by sadness, dark ties,
There it stands, the somber rose.

Its petals are blacker than ebony,
Its leaves, not green are those,
Weighted down by pensive memory,
There it is, the somber rose.

I happened upon it, in my voyage,
Alone, solitary, in the frigid snows,
Its moody head, a thinker's age,
Barely visible, the somber rose.

And so that lowly, mournful, flower,
Inspired me to write this prose,
In the middle of the afternoon hour,
A little thing, the Somber Rose.

I wrote this on the one year anniversary of my father's death. It has been one tough year.
