I really don't like spiders,
They cause my skin to creep,
By day if they don't get you,
They'll bite you when you sleep!

I may be reading quietly,
So warm and safe in bed,
When suddenly I'm not alone,
One's hanging by my head!

They come in many colours,
In ev'ry size and shape,
One thing they share in common,
--Their legs all number eight!

I may be sitting by myself,
Resting in a chair,
When goosebumps rise upon my flesh,
I know that one is there!

Many say I'm silly,
To fear a thing so small,
I simply cannot help myself,
They cause my skin to crawl!

Some say that I've a phobia
And the problem lies with me,
That spiders really help mankind,
And I should let them be.

They really do make pretty webs,
That glisten in the sun,
And help protect our gardens
--Their work is never done.

Perhaps I shouldn't fear them,
--They're not the enemy,
So when our paths do cross again,
I'll pass respectfully.

This is fantastic! The rhythm is impeccable and there is delight in how you've 'woven' (hehehe) every line, or should I have said "spun" every line.

Yes, the best thing about spiders...they suck the juices out of flies, but there are some of them that I just don't want around, in the house or by my side.

Last night I felt a tickle on my arm. I looked down and their was a tiny, extremely black, bulbous-bodied spider, about the size of the head of a pin. I flicked it off and then realized, THAT WAS A BABY BLACK WIDOW!!!!! I've been told the babies have just as powerful a venom as the mamas do. Oh, my, I was wishing I could see it so I could crush the future out of it. Ooooh, I'm afraid when it comes to some things, violence gets into my blood. Every tickle, every twitch the rest of the evening drove me out of my mind. So I understand the 'skin crawling' of which you speak. Eeeeeeeek!

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

VAS---thank you so much for the 'letter'!
That was a close call you had, if that was indeed a black widow spider! Egad! My skin is starting to crawl again! I'd spray the livin'bee'jeezuz right out  of my bedroom if I were you! This is your life we're talkin' about here!

Take care!!!!!
Linda

Ranita---I understand how comical people can appear when they're freaking out over a tiny spider. I've made many a folk break into hysterics with my crazed antics.

There is a reason for my phobia of spiders. I had my 12th birthday (more years ago than I care to mention!), while I was at Girl Guide camp. As a prank (a birthday present?), some of the girls filled my sleeping bag with hundreds insects. After the campfire I zipped myself up in the bowels of HELL.  'nough said?!?

Thanks for dropping by!

(giggles in delight) Call me crazy, but I actually love spiders, they may not be the prettiest creatures at all or the most friendly, but they are one of the most artistic creatures I feel and truly a miracle of God! (big hugggsssss) This is wonderful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

may love and light always shine upon you!

I still get the creeps if their big..but they are useful changing all the moths, mosquitos that lead up to my apartment..I'd just let them be and marvel at their ways. Did you know that some experiments on LSD's effects were done on spiders?Their webs were studied before and after Nice rhyme,

Noah and Ecrivan----Actually, I think spiders are incredible little creatures---I just don't want them near me! I can't bring myself to kill one, although I must admit, I have had others do it for me when I felt I may be in danger---and it's my life or theirs!

In fact, I don't like the title of this poem. I would prefer to just call it "Spiders". I hate the word 'hate'. Whoops! I mean, I 'dislike' the word 'hate'!

Enjoyed your thoughtful comments.

Earth Angel,

Great, just great. O.K. enough said. I too, am alergic to the critters. My skin swells up and I sometimes have to get shots or give myself one. Once I was bit on the ankle and my foot became twice its size and traveled as far as my knee before I realized what was happening. I have the spider police come to my house every three months. I'm not looking forward to the time when they all come out, which is not too far away!

Your poem was excellent, most of them are!
Sincerely,

Well, I love spiders OUTSIDE, IN THE GARDEN OR IN THE FLOWER BEDS OR LURKING AT THE FOUNDATIONS, that's where they belong, capturing all the critters before they come in MY house, building webs AWAY from my doorways so I don't have to walk through their webs unwittingly. THAT gives me the HEBEEJEEBEES for sure!

And when I think of that black widow baby spider that was on my arm, I know that wherever she came from, there are likely 50 million more! EEEEEEEEEEEEEK!

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Ahhh! Ewwww! Gosh, I don't do spiders! Too many legs and then there's the web thing that I always seem to manage to walk through. Ick!!!  Only pretty from a distance with dew and sunlight.

A few weeks ago our daughter was home for the day and we were outside and she found a spider in it's web in one of our bushes. She decided to feed it an ant. Gross!

I love nature but not bugs!

Great writing and rhyming in this poem.

Now I've got the creepy crawlee's!

Hugs, Marti

Spiders are beautiful and brilliant insects, Linda...
They weave beautiful, intricate webs...
Did you know that chipmunks eat spiders?
