Good things come in threes A bowl laid out before me I take a bite lay down the spoon and lapse in rhapsody The Familiar of garlic, tomato and bay the home of everyday laughter, sadness, work and play The Revelry of onion, peppers and celery reverent texture trinity meat of moon, tides and deviltry The Filigree of basil, oregano and thyme baroque details remind delicate iron wrought fine The Fires of red, black and white combined flames excite lusty, earthy, mellow bite The Mysteries of okra, fil`e and roux timeless mud imbued substantial sassy hue I do not want this bowl to end a complex stew unequaled by any other I raise it to my lips again -- Trois Gumbo I never aimed at reality; I aimed at truth. --Orson Welles |

bon temp, mon amis! The witch in me sees this gumbo cooking in a cauldron! And the coon ass in me knows that a good gumbo should be eaten slowly, to be savored. And you have all the right ingredients, too! *please, sir, may I have some more?* |

You want a cauldron? Try my empty stomach! And now I want to fill it in these words (ask wranx to show you "A meal of words," something I wrote a long while back about soup, too) Soup IS good food. But where's the alligator? Mike |

Hope there's enough in the bottom o' that cauldron to swipe a hunk of bread through. I eat that, I do ~Ed |
