Rags and Such Brushes, paint rags, cans of latex Lifeless on the porch Waiting there for days beyond The sultry summer scorch Just a pile of ragged towels and such And brushes soaking clean As I await a cooler day to stroke on Woodwork’s whitest sheen I gathered up the drop cloth To leave it somewhat neat Folding rags and marking cans To make the job complete Then lifting up an oil soaked rag Stained blue from former deeds I found a hidden treasure there Of someone else’s needs Three walnuts tucked away for winter Hidden in between A tattered rag and bristled brush To paint my woodwork clean While I was waiting cooler days Through humid August scorch A squirrel was hoarding winter’s food In rags upon my porch Then taking up my chore again I gathered all my gear Leaving cloth of blue and brush in place Until the coming year I never thought such simple joy Lay in a tedious task Nor saw a squirrel unraveling Procrastination's mask Elizabeth Santos |

This is just fabulously sweet, Liz... We have lots of busy squirrels here and they have been on our bird feeder all summer and I can see them squirreling away nuts and acorns for the winter... We have chipmunks too...but they live below our family room deck, but we have been spending most of our time upstairs lately. We should go down and check on my chipmunk buddies before they start hibernating for winter... Thanks for reminding me... ~ hugs from your rodent friend Lyra |

(giggles in delight) Oh my gosh, this brought a huge smile to my face, I love squirrels so much and little birds and all beauties of nature! I guess that's just all we need to finally get that beautiful canvas in mind, God Bless You, I love this, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Elizabeth, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Three walnuts tucked away for winter Hidden in between A tattered rag and bristled brush To paint my woodwork clean Oh Liz, this was so darn cute! In Vancouver the craziest thing about these little critters is they work so hard hiding their stash, only for anohter squirrel to come along and find it, and so the cycle goes I guess but watching them delights me to no end this time of year. I LOVED this! |

Elizabeth - this is so sweet of a read. I have a little squirrel who comes to my door every morning to share my toast with me. It is so cute to watch him lick the peanut butter off first and then munch happily away on the rest. Enjoyed. "Rags" and such...are you talking about me?....(That's okay, all the good looking ladies talk about me)...Now, I don't want to discuss if they're saying nice things or not, but they do talk about me)....(Of course, there was that little period of time when I ran out of Viagra and the things they were saying weren't so nice but....)...everything's back up like it's should be now....nice write sweetie.... |
