A little ditty about the river that runs by my shack. He has become my friend, this man O’Casey Though he waxes and wanes through time He remains steadfast nonetheless He greets me each morning With welcoming chortles And sings me sweet lullabies each night I sit with him and listen to stories of his travels About the people that he’s met The lives that he has led The times that he has seen I walk with him and listen to his music Gentle summer strings murmuring The crisp clear trills of autumn horns Winters’ harps and chimes Followed by springs’ crescendo with bassoon and cello I’ve learned about his children The creatures of rock and wood and water I see how he nurtures them How he feeds and protects them I see also, how he is disrespected and abused By those that cannot and will not Value his quiet dignity and grace He shares my life He is my neighbor And my friend ~wranx In reply to "which way do we go?", the answer was never "straight", but, "progressively forward". |

He sounds like a really interesting person, Wranx... I think people often misjudge people too fast....before they really get to know them. The same often holds true for nature. So many people disrespect swamps...and yet they are so beautiful and so full of life. Thanks for sharing this "ditty" with us. ~ hugs from deep in the woods Lyra copyright2002 Lyra Nesius "poetry is life distilled" Gwendolyn Brooks [This message has been edited by Madame Chipmunk (08-20-2002 10:21 PM).] |

I live by a river also... and it is sad how they can be so beautiful and calming yet we have abused them terribly. I really really enjoyed this... Into my library it goes! ~Hugs~ ~ Time has cast a spell on you |

musical neighbor! better than a naked one playing guitar on the front porch. A fine tribute to a drought-ridden war hero Brian I never aimed at reality; I aimed at truth. --Orson Welles |

damn...I thought the poem was good, but methinks brian's response? is worthy of its own post! *chuckle* but yes, I thank you much for this...land and areas "speak" and there is nothing I like better than to sit and listen to their stories. kinda like you guys much enjoyed, wranx...and understood. |

Used to live literally on the banks of the Ohio, so much appreciate this. And it reminds me of a friend of mine who lives nowhere near a river. Not sure why but it does. Truly enjoyed this, wranx. |

Sometimes to get to the heart of the matter all we need to do is look past the exterior into the interior. You have done this extremely well in this wonderful write. Sounds like a peaceful place to be. *s* somebody tell me, please help me.... |

You must have enjoyed Samuel's writings in order to personalize the river so very well...I enjoyed walking with you, and with your friend.... |
