'Twas in the Woods of Erin
So many years ago,
Some children gathered in a ring
Or so the story goes.

The forest was a mystical place
Where fairies did abide,
But never one, had they ever seen
Because they'd always hide.

They waited 'til the sun went down,
Bright stars shone in the sky,
Then suddenly, the night grew still
And they heard a plaintiff cry.

A little girl did venture
To the spot from whence it came,
She found the tiny leprechaun
Who'd called out her name.

The other children gathered 'round
In total disbelief,
They saw the tiny leprechaun
Peek out from yonder leaf.

One of the boys did ask him,
"Where are all of the others?"
"I've lost them all--my friends and folks,
My sisters and my brothers!"

"I was gathering dew from buttercups
To make a spritely brew,
When I realized I was all alone
And knew not what to do."

"I searched the woods from dawn to dusk,
But nary a fairy did see,
I fear Grimiltzkin has eaten them all
And the only one left is me!"

"Years ago the woods would ring
With the joyous songs of elves,
With sprites and fairies flitting about
Our kingdom's coral bells."

"You are so big and brave I see,
Please carry me to yon' vale,
By the light of the moon we'll find our way
Down Grimiltzkin's trail.

As the night wore on, they finally came
To the evil ogre's cave,
They heard the cries of wee wailing folk
Whom they were about to save.

They were locked up, in a cage you see,
'Twas of a monstrous scale,
Hundreds of fairies imprisoned within,
Filling Grimiltzkin Vale.

Quietly they ventured forth,
Grimiltzkin lay there snorin',
They rolled a rock to block the cave,
He roused and then he was roarin'!

"Let me out and quick I say,
I want my morning meal!
I'll share with you my tasty treat,
Now that's my only deal!"

"Oh, no!" cried they, "You can't come out,
There forevever you shall stay!
We're freeing the fairies, elves and sprites,
Erin Woods is their's today!"

The leprechaun rejoined his friends,
And his beloved family,
They all joined in to sing a song
Of thanks eternally.

Once in the fairy kingdom,
The children were in awe,
Of the music and the gaiety
And beauty that they saw.

In this land of revelry,
They wished to stay forever,
The fairies, elves and sprites rejoiced,
Their friends would leave them never!

Years ago on a summer's eve,
Some children followed their dream,
And ventured into the woods at night,
And since have not been seen!

But when the moon is bright and full,
The town's folk swear 'tis true,
Their singing voices fill the woods
Until the morning dew.

'Twas in the Woods of Erin,
So many years ago,
Some children gathered in a ring,
Or so the the story goes.

Now I know of a lady
Mysteria is her name,
that loves all stories
just like this,
she captures them
for fame!

For she has two little
young ones
and tells them tales
so wide!
That they laugh, and
cheer, and giggle,
and stick close
by her side!

So I'm sharing this
little bitty tale
with Mysteria,
so she'll see...
another writer here in PiP
who spins tales of
fairies...

Good morning, Sunshine!

Thank you for sharing with me that Mysteria writes about fairies and thank you again for your sharing with Mysteria, that I write about them as well!

absolutely delightful tale!!!

almost all the rhythms are uniform and most of the rhymes lie quite wonderfully

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Noah, I knew that you would enjoy this poem I wrote about our friends in the Woods of Erin. Now that Grimiltzkin is imprisoned in the cave, I think it will be safe for us to go back and visit the fairy folk!

Good morning RoseWhite!

Glad you enjoyed! Heck, I'm glad that you took the time to read it--it is rather long!
I was hoping anyone who dared read it, would get to the end of the poem before giving up!

Toe--

Thanx dear friend! You're not so bad at telling "stories" yourself! hehe

P.S. I'm so pleased that you're taking the advice I gave in my reply to  "A Toerag Halloween". I think it's wonderful that you have decided to wear a mask so you won't frighten the little children---and the fact that you will be wearing one in the likeness of Balladeer is even better! Make sure you buy lots of extra candy this year because the kids--and the women--will be eating right out of your hand! haha

---Just joking dear sweet Toe! On second thought, skip the mask and be your adorable self!!!

Wow! Thanx for the "wow..."!

Actually, I have written several books for children but I haven't submitted any of them to publishers as yet. I keep editing and reediting...but the day will come when I will be brave enough to send them out! Thank you for this little push.

Fairies live here and there,
throughout this home of mine.
Some of them dress in rags,
and others dress really fine.

One thing they have in common
is that they're all welcome here,
for my darling granddaughter and I
hold each one of them real dear.

They hide underneath the chairs,
and live in the plants you see.
They come out and dance at night,
they're not afraid of her or me.

They light up her room with fairy dust,
to keep all the nasty goblins away.
She leaves them bits of goodies
in her room so that they will stay.

They eat up all the crumbs she leaves,
and when she awakes each morn,
we have to tip toe in the kitchen
see, that's where baby fairies are born.

They like it under the stove that's warm,
so we leave them bits of fluff,
hoping that when they spin blankets
that we have left them enough.

Oh yes we believe in fairies,
and can't figure out those that do not,
for if you have fairies in your heart
Then a blessing you've surly got!

~*~

Oh, your timing is so good, she is coming for a sleepover today, and we shall use your story as a bedtime story tonight.  I will email you her approval, as the wider the grin the higher the rating     I adored this and into the fairy it book it goes with your name on it.

Very, very well done, much better than I could ever hope to accomplish.

Well, I have had the most delightful time reading The Woods of Erin. Linda, I'll be over to join you and Noah on your adventures into the woods.

Your imagination never ceases to amaze me. This is a keeper to be read to our nieces when they come to visit.

And Sharon, you added your own fairy tale and it should be posted on it's own. It was delightful also.

Hugs, Marti
