I saw the Lady crying, 'though she never shed a tear, But mortal fear is in her eyes, much more than I can bear. This Lady in her seventies, once lively - full of joy, Now sits there in her wheelchair praying for a miracle. Her speech is slow and cautious, due to major injuries, The doctors shaved off half her hair because of surgery. Her left arm in a cast - ignored and useless in her lap, Her brain not working as it should, she feels life has her trapped. But suddenly she looks at me, she speaks with thoughtful voice, And says she fears to fall asleep, since she still hears that noise Of cracking skull and broken bones, before her world turned black; The devastating nightmare of that cowardly attack. "But I must walk real soon," she says "'cause every year I fly; New Zealand is where I must be before the year passed by, My only child is buried there, I visit every year. Shall I recuperate in time? That is my deepest fear." Exhausted by emotions she withdraws into her shell Of hope, although now mixed with sand of doubt, which makes it Hell, I saw the Lady crying, though she never shed a tear, But mortal fear is in her eyes, much more than I can bear. A life was taken there and then, when madness came along, Or will the Lady find the strength? I pray she proves them wrong! Munda I actually met this Lady and she told me her gruesome story. She has been in my mind ever since, but I will go back and visit her. [This message has been edited by Munda (10-05-2002 04:56 PM).] |

Munda, I heard much of you from Titia when she was here visiting in America. I am happy to read one of your poems. Although, it is so heartbreaking. I hope your friend will recover. It's dreadful what happened to her. My prayers to her ... Hugs, Marti Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. |

Munda, I cannot even begin to tell you everything that I am feeling from reading your poem. Ria had told me of your poem this evening, but I just knew that she had talked to you on the sidelines and got more information. Boy was I wrong. You penned this story so well, and it especially hits me at a time when a sniper is on the loose here in the US. My simple wish would be that everyone who has to go through an awful event as this, find in it a bit of a happiness in making a new friend as this lady seems to have done with you. Thank you so much for gracing us with this story. Dawn |

Hearing this story from you the other day, and now in poetic form, gives it another dimension for me - How sad that anyone would take their aggressions out upon a defenseless lady like her - You've penned a real-life situation beautifully, my friend.. |
