Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan suggested yesterday that to spare the untold thousands (millions?)the ravages of war that Saddam Hussein and George Bush (not the 1st but the lessor) fight a personal duel.

Take up the tyrant's gauntlet tough talk Tex
when one on one saddamn might turn and flee
in hawks not squawks but talons one respects

To lead this way young soldiers it protects
our congress would be bully lectern free
take up the tyrant's gauntlet tough talk Tex

The charge of 'Nam' avoidance this deflects
your own hands could avenge paternity
in hawks not squawks but talons one respects

Such courage then majority elects
shrinks electoral fraud discernibly
take up the tyrant's gauntlet tough talk Tex

To senate now tongue flies, muscled wings flex
yet desert's faced with taciturnity
in hawks not squawks but talons one respects

Agendas through your plumage one detects
a caged songbird Big Oil turns the key
take up the tyrant's guantlet tough talk Tex
in hawks not squawks but talons one respects

Richard,
Hmmmm. This plan could grow on me. Challenging write, well done.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

YES! And I laughed when I read the Iraqui VP's idea, as it is exactly what I suggested one time, and then had someone suggest that I was a lunatic.
(BTW, my nickname really was 'the loon' in the past, but that is another story)
Good poem, RS.  I would love to see this duel, but I'm not telling who I'd bet on, and I wouldn't want a 'winner takes all' scenario either.

This is a well structured villanelle, Richard - with a well developed theme to boot... or not to boot... and to which shall we give the first proverbial boot?  I like this, m'friend - You've created another good one for sure..
