Iambe’s Konrad comes Home

He had long been far
from thoughts of any brotherhood
to two girls who
kept him off center, but Dillon
and Iambe came to mind,
now,

now that he had become older,
lonelier, but still possessive of his
need to be
big brother

he wondered, would they call him Connie again,
like they did as young girls
to tease him with
a feminine slant on his thin side…

it really did not matter that he had
excelled in his writing,
had been bold with his words,
befitting his name,
his sisters could tear him apart
emotionally,
by a tear,
or a jeer,
he could only guess
what they might greet him with,
if any greeting was done…

simply because
he had understood too late
not knowing of the Brozier boys’ actions
until months later

the girls being stalwart
as they were
then, had secreted their skeletons…

he had been lumped in with
men as almost worthless,
and they laughed at his two left feet
forever chided him
about not dancing
and it wasn’t until later,

much later,

that he came to a beginning of
male understanding,
what Iambe had looked for
and how well
she discarded things

how Dillon
picked herself up
by those eternal bootstraps
and walked on,
and away

how a brother
could feel most helpless
even among
his kin

so he wandered off, his mind full of words
and music, his darker side taking over
from the lighthearted laughter
that use to fill it
once upon a time,

when his sisters were young,
and he was young,
before the world and its conundrums
interrupted…

he pulled up in the dirt driveway, the person
in overalls bent over the radiator, tugging on some
immovable object,
looking up, long hair revealing eyes that
glared truth,

then he saw the second woman
in life’s doorway, skillet in hand, who
waved him inside,
expectant of his arrival,

and why not?

Family reunions always happen
in threes.

Karilea

I knew this was him, even before I met him.  Perfect!  Wonder what's cooking in the kitchen?

(smiles) Wow!!! Oh my gosh, the ending especially grabbed me, I suppose many times family reunions definitely do come in threes, but the effects tripling on and on! (big hugggsssss) This is marvelous, sweet friend, Ron will love this, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karilea, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

(smiling) Iambe is getting quite a family!!!

Great work my friend! The mood and tone fit perfectly! Now of course the second part of the challenge was to be able to write about them again... I'm hoping this is not just in the context of Iambe..but as a character that you can bring to life in his own right and that has a connection to Iambe.

Love the name by the way... and the character is truly in the vein of adding alayer of complexity as well as understanding to who Iambe is or was.

I'm looking forward to your sequel...

I want to thank everyone for reading the first in the beginning of what will apparently become "the Konrad series" and I hope, well, more than hope, that I can stay up with "The Iambe Series" that Cpat Hair does so well.

Thanks for reading!

So this is how it all began. The beginning of a wonderful series, it's nice to reach back and find the root of the marvel tree.

Splendid Karilea
