Watcher of the Woods Too long in winter's exile with extended arctic exhale Fall danced in the meanwhile biding time lurking in dales I smeared my footprints on her doorstep crunching the gold leaf underfoot floor of woods like a bedroom unkempt tripping now over a covered root He sat in the loftiest of trees sneering that rodents can't fly Missing nothing, a moment to seize an air ship royal in a moonlit sky Night black - a torch before him like a coffin wants for a nail Heard him before I saw him with his wounded witches wail In an instant the woods were mute In a flash, he descended upon prey He fits with ease in midnight's boot uneasy in the light of day Swallowing with zest his nightly meal Returning to his lookout perch Every possible ray of night he feels Eyes wise and solemn like a church I wondered, if he was as large as I As tall and proud, for what it's worth If he could reason, walk and cry Who would win dominion of the earth? |

ShadowRider~ This is just wonderful~ How like the wise owl would we all be ... if we had his vision ? *Hugs* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

(smiles) Wow!!! Ooohhhhh...I love this, sweet friend, I quite envy the enlightenment and the stillness owls have with them, and I believe if we could all sit atop that peaceful aerie like the owl we can all find the ulimate blessing of life! (big hugggsssss) There is so much we can learn from all our siblings of God, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Jeff, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

As I have said before, as an amatuer, I doubt anyone would care for my opinion. However, I really liked your poem. SO often I have caught glimpes of owls and had visions of their wisdom and moonlit gaze. ;D |

Jeff...your writing is amazing... Your imagery so incedible! All I can manage to do is sit here and shake my head. How do you do this? Fantastic! ~Hugs~ ~ Time has cast a spell on you |

Swallowing with zest his nightly meal Returning to his lookout perch Every possible ray of night he feels Eyes wise and solemn like a church A beautiful poem. Too early for the rainbow, too early for the dove These are the final days, this is the darkness, this is the flood |

I wondered, if he was as large as I As tall and proud, for what it's worth If he could reason, walk and cry I love how you depict your own wisdom Jeff~ Your poetry is so often larger than life and runs deep into the heart of the matter~ I tend to think that a person who does not cry is without a soul~ Just like we're blessed with happiness to share we're also blessed with tears when we fall from our perch. Smiling at you, as always~ |

I enjoyed this immensely. Thanks for the read. I guess one becomes content with one’s poetry when one opens the book ten years hence and does NOT exclaim, “Did I really write this?” |

Thank you all, very very much for your comments and replies. Each of you continue to be an inspiration and aspiration for me to achieve. For once, i was half way happy with the way the poem turned out. (I am soooo picky about stuff). Writing about animals is something i love to do, as Lyra says, personifying them, but it's extremely difficult to do without being repetitious or simply to get into their mind and way of thinking. Be well, and think of others first Jeff |

Well personifying you did, and you did it extremely well. Your effort on this poem are noticeable as the cadence is wonderful. Just a great poem, and I kept this one to read again, (loved the picture too) completed the whole presentation. God Bless |
