Fear not my my little princess,
For you are not alone,
We all have dragons to be slain,
We each create our own.

The mind can often conjure up
A fear that seems so real,
Face it with a good, brave heart
And make your dragon kneel!

Then you will find, there's naught to fear
But fear itself at worst,
Before it eats you bit by bit,
Slay your dragon first!

So stand up tall and breathe in deep
And hold your head up high,
Now go and face your dragon
And look it in the eye!

I've already faced my dragon,
And it wasn't very tough,
Of course he's only paper,
His name was "Magic Puff."

Now Puff the Magic Dragon,
Lived by the sea,
Oh, you already knew that,
It's just a memory.

LOL...when I was a mere child my older brother was involved in the civil rights movement and would take me along sometimes....I got to meet Peter, Paul and Mary and even Joan Baez!...I don't remember a whole lot about them but remember when we would take breaks and get out of the heat or into their motel rooms they would sing these songs to all of us young kids that tagged along with parents and relatives...I loved those days..

(big hugggssssss) Oh my gosh, I love this, I have indeed slayed so many dragons throughout my early life already and though I still face some I feel I'm worthy of taking up the sword of faith! (smiles) This is wonderfully encouraging words, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

You and that mighty sword of faith of yours, can slay any dragon that dares breathe fire down your neck. You'll not let them singe your angelic feathers!

We all have miles to go and so many dragons to slay. This is such important advise to adults as well as children.

You have such great insight Linda and express is so artistically. Your words always paint a picture for me that is crystal clear.

Linda - yes, I know all too well how "fear" can freeze us in our tracks and try to steal our self-confindence. This is a wonderful poem of priceless advice. Chris

Marti---

Often, when I felt my daughters needed advice, I would write a poem using the words I would like to say. Sometimes, I'd slip one under their pillow or set one out at the breakfast table. This subtle way seemed to sink in more than me spouting words that they sometimes felt was lecturing.

Martie---

I love writing for children---especially for my own. I also receive wonderful poems from them as well, some so incredibly sweet they bring me to tears. It is often said that "The more you put into life, the more you get out of it!" Well, the same applies for raising children. Whatever sacrifices I've made raising them, I get paid back 10 fold as I watch them blossom and grow into the fine young women they now are.

Thank you for such a kind reply!

Chris---

Yessirree! Fear is definitely an "F" word! It truly can immobilize us and prevent us from moving forward in life. I have also struggled with it myself. We can build these proverbial protective walls around us but they are so self-limiting. It takes so much courage to knock them down and go out into that big world out there. But it is definitely worth the effort!

I really like this. And, you know, a mind can indeed conjure up alot. It seems I face my dragon everyday. And, no matter what I do, he just doesn't stay away. Thank you for posting this.

At least you are facing your dragon every day. Eventually its going to get the idea that you can't be beaten down and it'll scamper away with its tail between its legs!

Occasionally there is children's verse
that is meant more to be understood by adults
who have ages ago
forgot the lessons they learned, most difficultly,
as a child.
