The creak of a hinged door echoing
down a dark stone hallway, dank, dreary
infested by rats....fighting over morsels...

A single ray of soothing  white in shine caressing
the walls, slowly falling, touching each crack
then climbing again as hours passed into darkness.
Day after day, this walk performed in fashion, as one man.....

Wearing the mask of ages
as river’s creases wear the skin
of life’s lines..

The unkept beard flowing long
before bare withered feet....

Sitting, legs crossed...hunched over in dim light...
without even a candle's flame...

Words, cherished words of a time and place
long before, when love was given, taken,
savored and tasted until....

One day, the wickedness of his world came
calling,   to find a daughter in the arms of a
common, mere mortal peasant...of eyes
which reached into souls....

Now....cast into the darkest confines of a dungeon
where even the key has been cast away, far
into the moat below...

Writing of the love of another...One who might
not ever been seen again....  Hoping that one
day, the evil shall die and the righteous shall
come, storm the locked gate and free his heart.
Take him from the bondage of two score...

That he might once see the beauty of eyes aged.
The voice of a maiden sworn to be...
That one touch, one kiss might be felt before

before a last breath is let....

And, ‘pon his death, shall lie a mattress of parchment,
pages and pages of written words of love...left
behind as death carries away the poet of heart,
the poet of soul...to liberty and waiting
love..

absolutely riveting poem and this, fantastic:

And, ‘pon his death, shall lie a mattress of parchment, pages and pages of written words of love...left  behind as death carries away the poet of heart, the poet of soul...to liberty and waiting love..

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Barry, that to me is the biggest blessing of a poet, to write a lifetime and be able to have those words shared with our children and their children throughout time and then when the time is right to go to heaven where poetry and love is everywhere! (sigh) That is the main reason I write poetry, to give something not only to myself but to many others who believe, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Barry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Barry,
Who set you afire?
And, ‘pon his death, shall lie a mattress of parchment,
pages and pages of written words of love...left
behind as death carries away the poet of heart,
the poet of soul...to liberty and waiting
love..
Well done.

Vas,  thanx dear for the thoughts...YEP,  I
like the closing lines as well...I always
try to drop a small bomb in the end that
leaves one thinking...or sometimes numb...

Noah,  thanx our Angel friend....appreciate
your flowers...

SY....Afire?  Gee,  I dunno,  maybe quite a
few of the sterling poetic lines here from
many of our talented poets....and possibly
some of the rain that falls now,  as I sit
and reflect in the mood...

Thanx Linda,

I can make myself cry if I really want to,
yet sometimes I don't and do it anyway...

Ya just gotta get down in that dungeon
and feel it...
