Red is the color of an apple
Of tomatoes ripening on the vine,
Of sweet Bing cherries, and fresh strawberries
Of hearts on a valentine.

Orange is the color of a carrot
Of pumpkins and oranges and squash,
A light flashing orange is a warning
To be on alert and to watch!

Yellow is the color of a lemon,
Of bananas, the moon and the sun,
Yellow is the bright and happy color
That is loved by everyone.

Green is the color of a pine tree,
Of emeralds, and ivy and grass,
Green means go at the stoplight
But red means stop! Don't pass!

Blue is the color of the ocean,
Of the sky on a cloudless day,
Blue is the calm and peaceful color
Of a lake on a summer's day.

Purple is the rich and royal color
Worn by blue-blooded kings,
It's the color of grapes, and juicy plums too
And lilacs that grow in the spring.

We live in a world full of rainbows
With so many colors to see,
They make our world so much brighter,
It's a beautiful place to be!

WOW Linda,  you just wrote a rainbow...and
much more....we could give this to our
small children,  or some of us big kids, to
help with our colors and cheer up our day
as well...

I have read and written many poems about color but this one brings on such happiness and points us to the basic fact that we are indeed spoiled by "Him" if only we allow ourselves to see it.  Excellent flow and rhyme in this piece also. Reads wonderfully allowed.  Enjoyed much.

Magnus---Oh, that response was so sweet!
I know my poems can be rather
         unsophisticated, but I truly do
enjoy writing poems and songs for
children. I feel happy when I write
them, and I feel happy when I see
         the childrens' happy faces!
---"Happy" is such a happy word!"

Have a great day!

Mark Bohannan---Well, those were very kind
                words!--and yes, indeed, we
                "are spoiled by Him"!

P.S. Thanx for pointing out the typo. I've
     fixed it.

Have a happy day full of color!

Mr. T---You're right!---I'm not color blind-----and neither are you!--as is obvious by all the colorful pictures you paint with your words!

Thank God we live in a world full of so many colors. If only we could be more tolerant of those differences.

Fabulous poem....hugs and thanks,

Remember when the world was all the colors of your rainbowed poem - photographs, movies and TV were only black and white?  And then all turned to color???  Kinda like that movie with Robin Williams "What Dreams May Come" (or something like that) -- when everything turned to vivid color...

Beautiful write my friend.

jwesley---I was so overcome by the beautiful
          colors and the cinematography of
that movie-- "What Dreams May Come"
--as well as the theme, that I bawled my eyes out during it. My girlfriend gave me her butter-soaked serviettes to wipe my eyes and nose. I was a mess! But I smelled delicious--like buttered popcorn!

Thank you for your warm reply!

Linda...A wonderful poem...Paul
If I had to color your heart
I wouldn't know where to start
I'd have to use a painters color chart.
But one thing for sure your heart is true.

Kaleidoscope

are we colorblind
preferring to see in
pastel shades of white or black
or is absence of rainbow
in the soul we lack?
If you meditate
upon what you believe
Life is a Kaliedoscope
you have yet to conceive

Toe---(I hope I got your name right! tehe)

Because the writing at PIP is so incredibly
sophisticated and brilliant, I was a bit trepidacious in posting one of the poems that I have written for children. It puts a smile on my face to read all of the wonderful replies!
