ESP HAS BEEN RESCINDED

I had a sensation
I’d work today
but I thought it would be
for a bit of pay

it seems, though,
I was mistaken
and my, oh, my
is my confidence shaken

for unless I exchange money
from pocket to pocket
there’ll be no pay
no matter how I clock it

I guess I’m a bit
like that dog out there
who whines and pines
for his master’s care

complaining loudly
for all to hear
how each moment is fraught
with moments of drear

perhaps he needs
a stroke of soothe
to pacify
his wanton mood

how not unlike him
we all can be
when we look at woes
not at victory
