I was looking through some older poems the other day and ran across this one. It seems like a lifetime ago this was born of my pen. In ways I miss that wistful poet who bore these words, but certainly not the pain that went along with them. My muse seems to have taken a short break and the writer's block is exasperating as there's much need for the release that words can bring. Miss you all Rock Me To Sleep Three thousand miles And mountains, lakes, and valleys Of longing between us I go to work, as you go to bed You, dreaming of making love As I write poetry in my mind Wishing I were there with you The sun rises in the east While you sail uncharted waters in the west The ocean rocking you gently Reminding you of me And on the deck of the ship You stare out into the sea As the ocean mist softly caresses your face Oh, how I envy the sea Rocking you to sleep in it’s body each night It’s wetness clinging to your skin by day While I, on another coast Lay dreaming of you I long to fit into your arms Like a ship in water Being rocked to sleep, Utterly safe in the breakers But for now, I dream of the sea... And you ~ Ruth [This message has been edited by hoot_owl_rn (09-10-2002 09:31 AM).] |

very nice images and longings shown like the metaphorical feel of the ship rocking your sweetheart to sleep, although I know a ship really could do so maybe you would find your muse again, or maybe it would find you if you came in and read a lot of the poems...the words might spark a flame. Just an idea. I seldom can read very many before I running off at the fingers now and then something good comes of it. Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

Vas...I'd love to be able to do so and yes, this place is inspiring, but time restraints prohibit me right now |

I enjoyed the gentle rocking feeling I got while reading this, and the taste of the salty breeze. Thank you for reposting one I never had the chance to read. Peace, and your muse will find you again. |

ruth, this was so beautiful...deep and full of longing, i've always enjoyed your writing, but i know from experience, some of a poets or poetress' best work comes from feeling pain, isn't that ironic? i suppose we must go through it in order to understand it and then release it. thanks for reposting this one. hope you get your muse back soon. we miss you. take care. amy "if irish eyes are smiling...they are probably up to something" [This message has been edited by Aimster (09-10-2002 01:34 PM).] |

Ruth there are so many of us who have felt longings such as this at one time or another I believe. Well done. If I have touched one heart through my words, then I have acheived my dream... |

Amy...I heard once that a poet had to fall out of love to write, how ironic , as you said . Yes, I find some of my better work is borne in the midst of some of my most painful experiences/memories. Everyone...thanks as always for reading my work and for your continued support |

The wistful poet is alive and well deep inside you, hoot. I saw her..... It's true that few things bring out great writing like suffering and pain....a high price to pay, indeed, for the creativity but at least something gets produced from all the hurt... |
