(Inspired by a Chicago Tribune political cartoon depicting how many have denied others of using the flag to show patriotism but exploit those people for their own commerical and business gains, which is a sad fact that saddens me everyday! )

And they tell you
You are denied to use the flag
And they infer to you
You can't hang it right there
And they reply hastily
"We are just doing our job!"

Yet I see these hypocrites everywhere
Exploiting the flag for their own commerical gain
On campaign billboards
And used car outlets
And firearm shop windows
Ladies and gentleman, here's Exhibit A
Let's run a prognosis
Before this diagnosis becomes an osmosis
As I'm buried in excerpts of John Webster
Trying to call the Robin Redbreast and the Wren
Protecting them from this ravenous wolves
Who usurp the blue into blues

Stir-fried and deep-woked
Firmaments of truth in polyester sauteed like chop suey
Aten like osso buco
Looks like they've uncovered the wanton wonton
But keep devouring it like ospreys
Before they even realize it...

Objection...
Objection...
Place the flag upon that flagpole
Where it belongs
Upon the Aerie of Liberty
Where everyone can look up
Not down
Where the sunlight can't reflect the colors
Where the wind can't reason
And where every young child
Can smile at its sight
Without having to be ashamed of its desecration

Hey George Washington, what do you think of the flag now?
Ah, hey George Washington, what do you think of the flag now?

So quit suppressing the origin of these colors
And sell them to all our children...
To those who trust in God
And not behind closed doors and blinds

"Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..."

Shakira

Noah, this is wonderful, my friend.   My own flag is being stirred by a sea breeze, as we speak.  Not to mention the one on my boat, also.

While I didn't see the cartoon you referred to, let me thank you for your protest poem.

Noah, this is absolutely one of your best, and you, my young Sir, should stand up very proud, and I would hope [and pray] that you send this to your paper...and inundate the radio stations with this very very proper gift of your heart!

I'm with you on this too Noah!! Excellent expression of true patriotism!! I agree about sending this one out to your local paper. Tell them to put it next to a prominent picture of the red, white and blue!!

Noah Noah!! You express so well the ridiculousness of what it means to be a consumer in our capitalist society!

How can a people so blessed by God deny him in the Pledge?  How can a people so lucky to be free deny the representation of that freedom because of silly "PC" amorphisms?

I hope that the child growing inside me learns, from people like you, the true values that George Washington and his contemporaries were trying to develop when they planned our nation.

Thanks so much!!

in the test of time
our sincerity will
either Pass or Fail
and the salute of the flag
should always be our Teacher.

o quit suppressing the origin of these colors
And sell them to all our children...
To those who trust in God
And not behind closed doors and blinds

was just an incredibly poignant stanza, Noah.
You are dead-on right
with this dead-on write.

Many thankx for saying what needed to be said
always your friend,
jeff
