Stone

Preoccupied on sunny afternoons
his pockets filled with the wonder
of young eyes
Bits of rock, little gems, chips of petrified stems
The history of everything was in his pair
of small hands

Windward lakeshore waves washed
and ice ground out fresh opportunities
for him to discover
A river uncovered its ancient upstream
history in a sand bar of treasure
In an old quarry crystals shone to him
from all directions

Eventually distracted with new clothes
and hands that seemed to have grown
too large for his own pockets
he left half filled boxes of glitter
to gather dust

Habits and patterns filled his years
with accumulations of wisdom and scars
until he finally found, polished to a sheen
a stone that he could not lift
Now little bits and shinning chips
and rounded river rocks wait
for another pair of small hands

(big hugggssssssss) YES!!! YES!!! Oh E.J, such powerful wisdom shines in your words, sweet friend, it is a lifetime commitment to hold onto the simple innocence and beauty we sometimes take for granted and then pass on that magic to others and know our hands are never too big to fit our young pockets, for the spirit of the child dwells within us all! (sigh) This is marvelous, sweet friend, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet E.J, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

In youth all things are so full of wonder...it is good to look back and see that it still is, and forward to see time changes, yet stays the same.  You got me pondering with this one...much enjoyed!

Krawdad, this brings back the nicest memory of finding some old toys of mine, once long ago, and unfortunately, I did not think to pack them up and bring them with me...and now all of the glitter is but in the memory alone...

well done, Sir...

This is one of those things that didn't quite work.  It started when I awoke one morning in a motel room to discover that there was a large cemetery outside my window.
I was going for a bit of "irony in stones".
The stone "that he could not lift" is his headstone.
I must have left something out . . .
Anyway, thank you all for reading and commenting.
