the chill of your rejection
began some time ago
only now I face the truth
it is time for me to go

this heart has felt the sting
from the arrows of your betrayal
I thought my heart was hardened
and ready for this portrayal

but thus I find the pain too great
with tears unseen I walk away
I hope you have a wonderful life
I’ve loved you more than I can say.

Sharon, I know how this feels. I thought my heart had hardened, too. But, they always seem to know just how to get to us.

Thank you all for your kind comments. This is a work of fiction so I am sorry. I didn't mean to invoke your sympathy...

ah yes. . . but, again. . . truth in fiction. . . or, fiction in truth???

in either case. . . well done and well written. . .

Truth or fiction, sometimes we're left with no choice but to walk away wondering, knowing we'll never know the whys and wherefores, only the wounds they've inflicted. *S*

Wonderful work, PDV... It sure is good to see you posting! *S*

See how well you wrote this piece!
Then we find out it's a work of fiction!
Nicely done fiction writer!
