The trees hold out disintegrating torches, dried color whispers, curled husks of moon. Autumn is the smell of quiet. Perhaps to blossom whiteness' paper so sticks and stones can poem the frost. Winter is the sound of breathing. Veins of rainbows, stones of shadows. Window warm within our home. We are leaves and ice. [This message has been edited by bsquirrel (08-13-2002 01:42 PM).] |

Thanks. I guess being born/living in New Hampshire for 20-something years helped. |

I don't know what the challenge is, but the imagery is wonderful! |

Thanks, Sunshine. It's a challenge to write about the fall or winter. I'm glad you enjoyed. |

I love autumn... Though I live in a wonky li'l climate area, so sometimes I get winter before I get autumn. Hell, sometimes I get winter in the middle of spring, but life would just be predictable without freak snow storms, hm? And nothing inspires writing like freak snow storms. Considering AFiaLoS and those following stories couldn't be the same without. Nummy poem. Written by a nummy guy! impress me, or be discarded |

"autumn is the smell of quiet" "winter is the sound of breathing" I must admit the latter line threw me for a moment, then I realized (like snowball to head) how very very RIGHT ON nailed that is. beautiful poem BS I never aimed at reality; I aimed at truth. --Orson Welles |

And nailed it perfectly... A wonderful tribute to autumn, Mr.Squirrel... and it really is a TRIBUTE too.... You made autumn sound delicious... Well......autumn is delicious, isn't it... It certainly is in Michigan. ~ hugs from a fellow rodent Lyra |
