Her family had gone away To visit the county fair But she remained at home She'd be the only one there As she rested on the porch After all her chores were done She saw a truck approaching It's windscreen reflecting in the sun A tall and handsome stranger Made his way to her door It was unusual to see anyone So few had been past before He came in search of the bridges To take some pictures he had said And with her uncertain directions To the bridges they were led He took the pictures he wanted And then he took her home When she asked him in for tea He realised she was all alone She felt as giddy as a schoolgirl Inviting him to stay for a meal She pictured his arms around her Wondering how his body might feel They sat talking for many hours Not one word did she miss She watched him as he talked Imagining how he might kiss Dormant passion had awakened As she looked into his eyes Her mind was eagerly racing Her feelings she couldn't disguise They spent the night together A love forbidden yet so true Her feelings now had deepened She was unsure of what to do He wanted to take her with him But she could not possibly leave He had to accept her decision But how their hearts would grieve He left under a cloud of darkness As her tears washed down the drain A special secret she would keep But her heart held so much pain Their love would be revealed Long after she would die Their ashes carried beneath the bridges As their spirits soared so high A love that was forbidden Yet a love so very strong Together now in death Two souls are now where they belong * * * * * This was written about one of my alltime favourite movies, "The Bridges Of Madison County." I enjoyed this as much as I did the movie. You did a great job of capturing the story with your poem. |

Sue, this was just fantastic. I too loved that movie. Even if I hadn't seen the movie, this poem painted a picture of a beautiful love story. Really impressive writing... I got the envelope! I'm so excited - I'll write to you tomorrow. Thank you, thank you! Hugs, Marti |

You caught up the movie in poetic perfection [one slight revision, perhaps, changing "probable" to "probably"?] You brought the movie back into my mind very well... now, go watch Somewhere in Time and write of it... Enchantress and I think you would like that one as well! |

Somewhere in Time! There are no words to describe the beauty and elegance of this, my all time favorite movie. The soundtrack gives me shivers! Marti |
