Sear

It’s that warm, damp
stick of feel, where evaporation
doesn’t
and winds won’t move
tendrils curling
from this face they're swirling…

it’s that tepid torpor
that slugs day,
morn crawls to noon,
day creeps in haze,
vapid inspiration lags
even the dog can’t cough
its gag,
and flies buzz lazily.

Portray me as a salt lick
that would illustrate my density,
possibly add to imagery
if you’re inclined to salt…

there is nothing sweet this day
that molasses could hold up to,
far too lazy
in moments sprawl
no, molasses will not do…

so there is nothing but leg and limb
limp in the sultry summer swarm of sear,
sullen throated swearing that no winter cool
will prescribe again this
heat of day…

But then you come
with browned iced spree
and fancy that!,
you thought of me…

so, sit and sip
and slip into
a juleped thrill
and think of winter
and its chill.

Oh good grief...this one is a smoking....
Decca my girl...where have you been haning?
Down by the bayou?
This is Mardi-gras heat!!
Summertime humidity and sultry skin breezes..

HAVE MERCY...wheres me Gator-aid

Very very nice write Ms Decca...love the heady mix of rhymes, alliterations, assonance and heat.

Mind if I keep this? Merci

Tell me we belong together
Dress it up with the trappings of love
Ill be captivated, Ill hang from your lips
Instead of the heartache from above

Why yes Ms. Deca!!
I'll sit with you on the verandah and sip
a mint julep with you...
we'll just dally away the sultry summer afternoon.
YOU sizzle girl!

Oh Deca dear Lady, do you know how you brighten my day with your sunshine?  Would love to sit and sip with you in this heat.
So good to see your words again...

Enjoy life, this is NOT a dress rehearsal.

Get another glass,  I am on my way!

That is exactly the way it is here right now
and I just finished mowing the yard....and
I look like a drowned rat after swimming
across a raging river!
