Listen, hear the voices of souls the trump and horn, distant drum rolls. Hear the cry of the shattering. See the flow of life splattering. Look through the haze, as comrades fall. killed by numbers from leaden ball. Step to the side as lives become just one more beat of drummer’s drum. Fighting the foe till death is all that stands between the human wall. Fear of the sword’s slashing swish hoping to live their only wish. A stand for the union and stars of blue and gray, of silver bars. Fathers,brothers often the foe, dealt the other a cruel death’s blow. The fields now green, covered by stone. Souls in silence lying alone. Now a mem’ry of tragic times as the distant bell of death chimes. |

Magnus darling heart where have you been? I’ve missed you so much, these hallowed halls are not so over-stocked with talent that when one of the premier poets isn’t around it isn’t noticed. I know I haven’t been in much the last week of so, but I have managed to get in at least once a day. And when I haven’t seen your name I’ve been sorely disappointed. You know I’m going to say this is excellent writing darling heart it paints the scene so well. Your writing is always powerfully descriptive and this is utterly utterly superb. I love it utterly.  (big hugggsssssss) Oh Barry, I don't like war either yet I know this was so very important for we would have never had a unified nation if it wasn't for this war! I once took part in a civil war re-enactment of Pickett's charge.We moved forward over the same field toward the union lines on the same battle field.I felt something burning in my eyes and thought it was the sweat from the hot summer day.Then I looked at the men moving forward with me and realized my eyes were also streaming with tears for the men who died in the same field.Most people who have fought in wars hate war.I feel sorry for those who say they love it.General Lee said after the battle of Fredericksburg."It is good that war is so terrible lest we love it so well". paladin [This message has been edited by paladin (07-25-2002 06:37 PM).] |
