In all the words of our language Why do not people envision That change can be made To things set in concrete In the dynamite power of a free spirit Blast away with a full onslaught Creating sand Freeing the bond of water’s adhesion In stone walls lined with people Who have the power to change things Sandblast them into such clarity In the open eyes that must then dream Of making a difference As my words fade in shame In a cocoon that hides sorrows Laying waste in self respect In dry tears that can not cement I shoot a flare out into the universe In a smile that should not be On roller coaster ride that needs to compose For the words retreats to only refuse to hide In cracks so small they are not there That hope may then bring forward In words not yet said In scratch marks on paper just thinking Why should I try to change things? Foundations of public trust So invincible that words bounce off In the status quo Who am I to challenge an institution That will not listen Just laughing as if infallible Yet so ripe that the shell has cracked I am an American nightmare A conscience of fire and brimstone And who when provoked Will thunder and roll Into an avalanche of words That will be heard like hailstones On tin roofs pounding to be heard From those looking the other way for convenience So those that abuse the American trust In accounting statements of deceits In hidden transactions of illicit gains And forgetting the words of trust In the faith of what built this country My words are waiting In the volcano of my mind To flow out like a demon venting rage And destroying your invulnerability For vengeance is in the public’s eye Of an American dream flying a flag of respect In red white and blue Thought: Someday people will again be heard in independent criticism and be allowed to use a public medium in the power of the bills of rights, for a controlled society is one ready to burst in the explosive strength of self expression.
