Inspired by her beautiful words. If I die If I die, will I hear bells ring? If I die, will I feel the bloom of flowers? If I die, will I know what ice tastes like? If I die, will I know I knew that taste? If I die, will clouds turn to veils? If I die, will streams reverse their flow? If I die, will language lose a letter? At least one number? One number from the phone? If I die, will storms wash out my eyes? If I die, will my bones join slow mountains? If I die, will the sea find and keep me? If I die, will my hunger be gone? I wish that things were easier, love. I wish that we were whole. She said burn ... together. -TON [This message has been edited by bsquirrel (07-18-2002 02:18 PM).] |

Mr.Squirrel... That is a beautiful poem and I am proud to have been the inspiration for it. A friend of mine, who works with dying people...told me that after we die, we know everything there is to know, and so she equates death with knowledge. I think thats a fascinating theory. Heaven is probably one big library and every answer to every question we have ever had is probably just sitting there in a place where we will be naturally drawn to it. It really doesn't sound like such a bad deal to me...as long as there will still be poetry to write and a place like Piptalk on which to post it, and wonderful friends like the ones we have all met here... the bonus would be meeting all of our deceased loved ones too! Anyway...I think rodents must make the best poets. Do you think theres a special rodent heaven? ~ heavenly rodent hugs Lyra |

I love that idea of heaven. Though maybe, also, once you're beyond the earth, it doesn't affect you anymore, so you don't need the answers? Hmm ... so many questions. I'm glad you enjoyed, Lyra. I'm hopin' for the same thing -- of that special rodent place. Much love to you. Michael She said burn ... together. |

And it would be scattered far and wide with acorns and walnuts from the leafy trees and crocus bulbs and pumpkins and sunflower seeds. Now that would be rodent heaven.... ~ loving chipmunk hugs Lyra |

Okay, this one isn't so much sad as conteplative... *kiss* The last two lines blew me the hell out of the water, but of course you know why. *pout* Though I'm too tired to react properly. Jus' woke up. Not a happy, phasing out of sleep waking up either. Just the shooting straight out of bed, panicking, thinking it's hours later than it really is and knowing you hafta be outta there. Yeesh. Anyway, if there is this special rodent heaven... I don't think I'd be allowed to come visit! I mean, I've been told (by different sources) that I'm a wolf, a cat, and a ferret. And all three of these things would not be looked upon very happily in rodent heaven. Although many people I know call ferrets rodents, which I don't get... They're weasels! Weasels, I tell you! written in blood before everything went black |

Oh, and since I somehow missed the chance to say this in the prior response (remember, tired): "'If you die,' you said, 'so do I,' you said." Hm... Not only is Robert Smith caught up on words like Christmas, fur, and kiss (and it'd be one hell of an interesting Christmas if you decided to put those all together ), but he puts in a lot of dialogue. Anyway. With those happy Cure thoughts in your head, I will now check mail, take a shower, stumble to work, and do my first Thursday night bake. *whimper* They are called Hell Bakes for a reason. I'm only showing up an hour early... I hope I don't die... written in blood before everything went black |

(big hugggssssss) Oh Michael, this is sooooo powerfully bittersweet, dearest friend, I know how you feel but I know you will find all the love your heart desires and when the time is right in spirit your love will always go on! (sigh) This is well-said, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michael, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Hi Mike We all do this I think, me more then ever now that I'm older, but seems, I feel more at peace with the answers, even if I don't know what they are. I know, doesn't make much sense..but...hey! Lyra knows what she's talking about. See ya there! |

If I die, will language lose a letter? At least one number? One number from the phone? Great lines, Mike. Hey, can a somewhat untrained puppy get into rodent heaven? I promise not to chase ya! This poem makes me wish I had more time to write. A ponder I could sure run away with. One blaze of glory - glory |

I wish that things were easier, love. I wish that we were whole. You are nimble thoughts here. I could never claim any answers but love..keep loving..and you both are very loved. Sincerely, Reg |

The Cure quote was PERFECTLY fair, after the last two lines o' this poem, lovely. It's only if I start whipping out lines from The Kiss or Torture or Fascination Street or Lullaby or [insert other reallyreallyreallyreally gothically intense song here] that things'd be unfair. written in blood before everything went black |
