Lyra, Sweet lady. Life forces us to face tough issues. You do it with such class. May I assume the questions are not rhetorical...I'll see you in heaven. I know you face hard times but having faced only one of my own, I am reminded we are all going to die. I will see you in heaven. But for now...I am so glad you are right here. Excellent poem. Peace and courage to you dear friend. Don't stop writing your heart. I want to read it. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

Lyra I think we all ask ourselves this question in one way or another. My daughter, Michelle had an answer when she was only five. She was wise. She said, "only God knows what infinity is." She is probably right, and certainly knows the answer now. But if I were to measure you and send you to a place, it would be filled with peace and more than one loved ones face. Hugs to you dear Lyra |

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Lyra, I know how confusing these questions may be, but I know with all my heart when the time truly does come around you will join Him and forever be blessed by His love, for you are a true angel and your love will always guide your loved ones and cheer them up like the sweet, compassionate, and loving chipmunk! (kiss on cheek) Until that day comes when the time is right, always live life to the fullest and follow your heart and be the loving you, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Lyra, I believe that all people consider this, some of us have more of a sense of immediacy. I am sure that you are armed with the tools needed, to see this thing through. I know also, that all of your friends here...believe ~wranx What shall become of me when my eyes no longer see? When my blood grows cold and thick, when my mouth no longer speaks? What shall become of me when you can’t recall my face? I’ve tread this life so lightly, I believe I’ll leave no trace. When this life’s timepiece drops its’ final grain, I pray my end is peaceful, forsaking agonies and pain. What shall become of me when I answer that final call? Will my spirit be freed? Will the mote that is me continue on at all? I have great faith in Humanity...It's just most of the Humans, I'm not too keen on. E.F.Rose |

what if I die, now that life is once again sweet? Oddly enough, I've been asking myself the same question, lately. I never think about my own mortality until I'm in a situation where I'd miss being. Though, may I say this about your that...You ain't goin' anywhere!!!!! We're not done with ya yet!!! One blaze of glory - glory |

Thanks Larry... Yes the questions are rhetorical, but I am always scared now. A couple of weeks ago, I carried some heavy photo albums upstairs and I seem to have strained a muscle in my left thigh. It seemed to have healed after a few days, but then last weekend...I wore high heels and it came right back again...so now I'm all paranoid that I have a bone metasteses because thats where my first husband had the pain which was his first symptom of his cancer and it turned out to be a very big metasteses on his hipbone. This has just caused me to do all sorts of dark thinking...which I have to stop doing, so I figured that writing it into a poem might help to discharge those feelings. Life throws us such surprises...and not always happy ones, as you know. ~ great big hugs Lyra |

Dear Lyra, you've explored the questions faced by most of us (perhaps even in our everyday life), esp. when we are faced with new challenges, obstacles and even fears. Though we may not know exactly what will happen to us, but I do know for sure, if we believe in God and His word and promises, we shall have eternal life (we live forever!). And I pray that our souls leave with us, for without them we are nothing. This is a truly an amazing poem. Where did you get all these lovely pics huh? BIG hugs again (and I know you'll never be tired of them) marie Keep counting your blessings [This message has been edited by mycafe (07-18-2002 01:27 AM).] |

Thanks so much, Marie... I agree with you about the soul...but I don't confess to know anything for sure because if I have been there, I don't remember it. I guess thats one of life's great mysteries and we aren't supposed to know it until its time to know it... but I have had lots of communication with my late first husband and I know that he is watching over me...and that makes me believe that there is somewhere that our souls go after our bodies die. I get a lot of my pics from a website called Webshots. You have to join but its for free, I'll email you the link. ~ bigger than life hugs Lyra copyright2002 Lyra Nesius "poetry is life distilled" Gwendolyn Brooks [This message has been edited by Madame Chipmunk (07-18-2002 12:36 AM).] |

...'as if praying to be born again as branches to sway in the breeze to dance leafy dances to be covered in green in this sacred place, serene...' I love these lines. When we do die, and we all will, I love the ideas of above. Lots of questions and words to think about in this poem Lyra. I think Martie's daughter had the best statement. Hugs, Marti "Even if life is full of thorns, I still embrace it for I know that in between those thorns, there is a rose worth all the pain." |

Sweet Lady...now you have me thinking deeply...in ways you may not comprehend. Wear flats. You have a beautiful soul, Lyra, there is no way that you would not soar the heavens, for this is what you give to us now...all beauty, even in the rages of those things you cannot control. You know the good of life. Cling to it, until He gives you His promise, and just remember, you are always a teacher, and through you, we will all be taught many lessons for a very long time to come... a Very Long Time To Come... ~*~ Teaching Hugs... Morning Lyra~ I have to echo Karilea as well. We all ponder these thoughts at one time or another, and I guess the answer lies in our faith, which is tested from time to time. You will be well, and be with us here for a long long time. What an amazing woman and writer you are! You inspire me...you inspire us all. Be well. ~Hugs~ |

Lyra - lovely poem - so well written and so full of good questions - for my 2 cents - your spirit never dies and the things we do live on forever - that is as far as I get in this ponder - really great poem - Paul |

Well. Lyra, I have pondered these questions over a period of many years, but never as eloquently as you have in this interesting piece of creative wondering. I think you have dealt with the issues in fine style, using strong images and appropriate language. I have never worked out the answers, so I'll stick with Bob Dylan: "The answer is blowing in the wind." I look forward to reading more of your work. Patrick Talty |

Lyra, dear, you know that I know all the answers, why didn't you just ask? Life should be sweet! Be grateful for every ounce of happiness the Lord has given you. He loves us and wants us to be happy. Death isn't defeat, it's another stage in existence, and you know that already-you said you know your first husband is looking out for you. As for the pain, well-that happens. Some people have a lot harder time dying than others, but you and I know that some people have a lot harder time giving birth than others, too. It's not some big theological thing, it just is. As one person who is going to die to another one(though neither of us very soon, I hope!) when it's over, I'll meet you up there and we'll write truly heavenly poetry! Nan(Pilgrim variety) |

Really Really Touching. This issue is faced by all of us as scary as it is we can't run from it , we must enjoy what our master has given us. To open a door without knowing what is on the other side takes great courage, but open it we must to embrace what is on the other side or we will never know the joy that awaits us. I recently had a scare like your husband but everything turned out okay. Bless You Paul |

Lovely picture, a very thought provoking poem, and with questions I am sure each of us asks once at least. I choose to believe that this is but a stepping stone to greater things, and so when and if you ever do die, as I am sure you will and so will I, wear a red scarf so I will know you okay Nothing means more to me than faith, |

Karilea...thanks so much for your lovely reply. I usually wear flats and sandals, thats why I'm not used to high heels. These weren't even really high heels...they were very high wedges, but like high heels, they do change the way our bodies move and they affect our posture. If I really get too concerned about it, I'll get a bone scan...but maybe I really don't want to know what it is anyway. I suppose that at least I can look at this as provoking my muse... As far as heaven is concerned...its probably not too bad a place, but I hope not to visit there anytime soon... or maybe its like NYC... A nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. ~ caring chipmunk hugs Lyra |

Thanks so much, Nan...Of course...now why didn't I realize that you would have all of the answers... and the most important thing about heaven is that there will be poetry there...and there will be poets who will write heavenly poetry. Thanks so much for replying to my poem, Paul (Wilson) To open a door without knowing what is on the other side takes great courage, but open it we must to embrace what is on the other side or we will never know the joy that awaits us. I really love that remark...and I know that it certainly is true here on earth...and so it must be a universal truth. I'm so glad that what you had turned out to be ONLY a scare. Many of us aren't quite that lucky, but sometimes it takes a scare to get our thought processes ticking. ~ hugs of thought Lyra |

Thanks so much, Sharon.... Will you be able to recognize me with the red scarf? What if others have that same idea? How can any one of us possibly know all of the feelings that are running around at a pace that would overwhelm the most healthy of persons. Fear affects us all....It sometimes control our every move, or every hesitancy or how we balk at doing something that is hard....or is UNKNOWN....such as that darkness of death....If we believe and we have faith...there will be life beyond mortal death... I pray for you each day that you will continue to live here with us, with your own family....with you friends and those that will forever remember you as a courageous lady who has left a definite imprint in our hearts.... Be tough, but be realistic.... take care and I Hope that all turns out well for you.... PS...I want you to know that fear has caused me many worries over the last 10 years or so....and guess what....so far.. not a one has been what I feared it was... and all was well.... |

Thanks so much for your reply, Barry... The human mind is so powerful that it has actually been known to cure people of diseases without any other medical intervention. One thing I do know for sure, is that if we have faith in something working for us...it is very likely to work, but if we have no faith...it probably won't... and fear causes tremendous problems but its also hard not to be afraid sometimes...and I am definitely finding myself in that position sometimes...where I don't want to be afraid...but it just overwhelms me. Usually this happens in the middle of the night when I can't sleep. ~ scared chipmunk hugs Lyra |

Karilea...I really meant that. Wouldn't it be nice if we could visit heaven just long enough to get a glimpse of it and then come back here to our lives on earth. Of course this could never happen because that would upset the entire order of things. I really do believe very strongly, that we aren't supposed to know about such things for a reason....but I don't know what the reason is. Maybe someday, we will all find out...in fact, I'm sure we will all find out, but we probably won't be able to come back here and tell everyone. ~ curious chipmunk hugs Lyra |

I grew up in NYC and I can tell you that it really could simulate an afterlife of sorts. Mortality can be terrifying... I know I'm only 18, but last September, my right hand just started shaking out of nowhere (still hasn't stopped, and the doctors still haven't given me any answers), and I was absolutely sure for the first month that I had developed a brain tumor, and that would be the end of everything. But no matter your age or experience, the whole thought of death is always going to be overwhelming, especially since no one knows what will happen. Beautiful poem. I wish you luck. written in blood before everything went black |

In reading some of the other responses to this poem, I was surprised by how many people don't think about this... but I think I never thought about it when I was younger either. If thoughts of the best and prayers of friends are to figure in the equation, then you have an army behind you of support. That combined with your obvious strength and understanding alone gives you an upper hand. You seem to handle life's toughest with great inner self and you are admired for that. Deares Lyra, I just saw this poem, and I wish I could take your worries away. But as for the questions, after losing my Grandmother, and reading A LOT, I have come to the conclusion that we all pass to a better place, and there to be rejoined with our loved ones. Not that it makes it any less scary, but I am really starting to believe that..after many years of questioning. Sandra |

Lyra, as you know, for several months I had to ask myself some very similar questions. I was quite fortunate, but still have five to eight years to go and the questions continue. Michelle was right. Only God knows infinity and in times as uncertain as these it is more important than ever to trust in Him. God bless you, my friend. Healing hugs. You always in my prayers, dear Lyra. Michael |

Sandra.. Thanks so much for your reply. Until my first husband died, 3 yrs ago...I was not truly a believer in an afterlife of any kind. But when he was dying, he said that he would send me a sign to let me know that he was okay...and he has sent me many of them, and continues to send them to me. The first one occurred at his burial.... Just as the casket was being lowered into the ground, a big beautiful Tiger Swallowtail butterfly flew up out of the grave and brushed against my cheek. Butterflies, never go under the ground, and that also had been a year when they sprayed for Gypsy moths...and we had therefore not seen any butterflies. Everyone who saw it was quite astounded! To this day, even though I am re-married to a wonderful man...I still feel his presence and he still communicates with me. ~ butterfly hugs Lyra |

Thanks so much, Michael. I truly appreciate all of your prayers and I would like you to know that you are always in mine, also. Michelle was definitely right. There is no way that we can know when our time is up. I think that everyone....not just those of us who are stricken with a potentially fatal disease, should ask some of these questions because they are part of the infinite tapestry of life and death...just as death is part of life. ~ big thank you hugs Lyra |
