He came in on platform shoes A walking stick in each hand It took forever for him to reach me But so tall did his pride stand He introduced himself as John I said 'Hi, my name is Sue' He was such a gentle man With a heart so warm and true Self assured and independant Such an example to us all Self pity was not an option His inner strength standing tall I ordered him a cab And we chatted for a while So much will and determination I couldn't help but smile He said he would return And how welcome he will be I never thought of him as handicapped For he was such an inspiration to me * * * * * As a motel receptionist I meet so many people from varied walks of life and some people really touch my soul as this man most certainly did. When you see someone like John, whose every move is an effort, it makes you realise that your own troubles are few.It is so true that there is always someone worse off than yourself. I am in motion |

I have met a few who have met adversity head on, myself. I find myself thinking that I don't have any problems at all. Good job, here, Sue...thanks! |

Sue: I like this compassionate poem! So often we see others who are really handicapped in some way and realize how fortunate we are. They usually have much to offer if people take the time to find out. Betty Lou Hebert |

What a wonderful tribute, Sue... Sometimes it is the very ordinariness of life which makes it so beautiful. ~ hugs for being a beautiful person Lyra |

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Sue, God Bless You, I know just how you feel, while I have indeed been through a lot of my own troubles, I still consider myself very lucky and fortunate and rather than crying over my past misfortunes, I want to reach out to those who need it the most and comfort them with compassion for there are many more who need it more than me out more who I know with all my heart I can help! (kiss on cheek) You are a true angel, sweet friend, this person is blessed to know a true angel like you as I am, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sue, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..." |

Sue, your kind and loving heart shows in this poem. And, this poem speaks the truth. There is always someone who is worse off than us. |

Sue, this certainly touched my heart. Your writings cover so many subjects and it's always a treat to read your words. You have a compassionate and gentle heart my friend. it is amazing the powerful abilites of some who we see as disabled - thanks for a very well written poem that gives pause to ponder our relationships with people with varying abilities - Paul |

Sue, There are so many examples of courage in this world. But seldom do they get the respect and love they have earned. Excellent poem and lesson. If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

Sue, it's nice to see you saw the person and not the disability. Keth Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind. Unknown |

So very true. Sometimes we don't see things clearly until someone opens our eyes. You have splendid vision. Sincerely, Reg |
