Regrets It was Independence Day our first since the attack on our freedom, why didn’t I think? Why did I let myself get caught up in all that self-preservation stuff? Should have remembered those American things; should have included them in my celebration, apple pie, pie on the menu, even ala mode, but I only thought of sugar and calorie overload. But shouldn’t that have been set aside in order to claim the pride in the joy of Americana? Should have played or watched a bit of baseball, too. Baseball, apple pie and Mom~ maybe that’s why I didn’t think; without Mom, baseball and apple pie say, “Good-bye.” ©July 6, 2002 Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |
