   Cloak and Tender

So quickly the evening falls
into the movement of trees I feel morning
like a portent in a hot cup
it is brewing as your bag is packed
your shirts all numbered and caressed
as my eyes seek to remember their fall

You check the garden and give it your hand
like a woman who is dry
it turns dark and moist from your careful water
and I listen to the greening that comes from seed
the sound is tender as cracked dirt
like your eyes closing and filled with shadow
or the silent movement of the worm
it is part of the earth breathing

I would be your cloak and tender
slip inside where pockets wait your hand
and be pulled out important and bright
to watch your charm arrange the sky
and make it more than what it was

But some things are yours alone
to glory be just you ..not me
so I left a present there in your open palm
and should you feel a warm spot
it is just my love

hey i like the way you use the metaphors with the garden and the worm and whatnot. Hey goodbyes are never easy, Martie, but try and convince yourself that this person remains with you always through the love that you showed this person

And don't the shirts of a packed suitcase have a totally different aroma Martie?  Or is it that we never hold or smell them that way until they are folded and packed.  This made me smile so, as it is so you, yes that is why...it is just so very, very you!  (and that is a good thing!)

as if those words weren't awesome enough then....

But some things are yours alone

Makes me sigh just thinking about the depth of this ones tenderness.
What a gift of heartwords this is.
Fold it and put it in his pocket...

Martie,
My pick,

I would be your cloak and tender
slip inside where pockets wait your hand
and be pulled out important and bright
to watch your charm arrange the sky
and make it more than what it was

Love the way you arrange words.
