The Funny Thing About Dreams They dance like thieves stealing themselves away when childhood giggles are bright eyed and one with the moon and stars where their Hollywood ending illusions twinkle a thousand possibilities and even more regrets to come. Cunning, how we are taught to buy into what we're sold only to claim bankruptcy when the ending provides not a Clark Gable prince. Sad really, how the flower can peel it's petals, one by one, "he loves me not, he loves me not" - a broken record molesting wind fingers where once the red rose stood tall. Tragic, that a spirit so intoxicated by the perfume innocence of optimism now pricks itself on the thorns of reality. I could tell you about the silver lining and the plethora of smiles to be thankful for of lessons learned, and the power of prayer, but, all of these are self-deceived of last hopes stricken with regurgitated phantasms of a lost little girl all grown up far too soon. That's the funny thing about dreams, like the body, they too, wrinkle and wither no matter if your heart lathers it's remains in 'Oil of Olay.' And the lips so passionately kissed yesterday barely drinks of today's champagne called fervor because there is no sky mouth to taste, becoming the inevitable, giving up and giving in. We are de-hydrated dreams of a druken cupid where the glass is half-empty of love and half-full with pain; as there are times, all too often, where you must be the statistic, the negative, the misfit, the loser. Rather the scream be mute than shrill, rather the skin build walls than feel, better to think that God is sleeping than know He chooses to ignore. Sometimes life gets in the way and you learn to dream smaller and weep a little harder. By Melissa P. Monette [This message has been edited by Melissa Honeybee (06-29-2002 10:54 PM).] |

hiya, HoneyBee..Yanno..The ending to this just made me do this sad sight..Hopefully I won't have to crying to hard soon..Loved all of this. Powerful. May I say your writing reminds me of my own? At least your Passion does. How grave is my condition, for I cannot find the words to say, I need you so. |

Hello Melybee...long time since I've seen you. Welcome home! Terrific write...[p.s. check for spelling]. The metaphors in here were very interesting, and the poem kept me engrossed... I would ask you to "do it again" but I am afraid you don't have that much pain in you left, not after spilling it all out here. Yes, m'dear, it was that good! |

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Melissa, I've missed you and your beautiful words sooooooooo much, this is wonderful, sweet friend, it is sad indeed but I also know as long as we believe in our dreams and not let the outside invade the shores of our dreams greatness will always happen! (kiss on cheek) This is fabulous, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Melissa, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Melissa, This is a powerful and wonderful write, but would you take away the dream of common man. Then it would really be hell on earth. |

Each reply means a lot to me, thank you all for your support and for welcoming me back It's good to be back, my muse was so moody and lacked inspiration and needed a vacation for a while...but, now I have thoughts coming out the wazzoo, my muse is so antsy to write away! Yes, this piece is negative and somber in tone, but, hey! writing poetry is cheaper than therapy right? I'm usually a very optimistic person, but, there are times when even I have to overanalyze life and feel sorrow as a result of certain truths. But, thank you once again for reading this, I realize that sometimes "dark" poems are not as readily received. "Poetry is not an opinion expressed... |

"Sometimes life gets in the way and you learn to dream smaller and weep a little harder." Melissa, you're teaching me how to write. Such words of wisdom in this piece. Are you sure you're as young as you say? Excellently penned, my friend. Michael |

Hey Melis....so good to see your name here... love the vocab and analogy in this. Well done girlie girl. You and that muse of yours got any other metaphors up your poetic sleeves? When your own emptiness is all thats getting through, |

Now THIS was a slice of life! Life isn't all pretty and wonderful and you write the side of it that hurts all too well. To one who has held this glass of course I loved this...(and welcome back) We are de-hydrated dreams of a druken cupid where the glass is half-empty of love and half-full with pain; as there are times, all too often, where you must be the statistic, the negative, the misfit, the loser. Excellent writing Melissa. Nothing means more to me than faith, family and my friends. [This message has been edited by Mysteria (06-30-2002 06:38 PM).] |

I'm also playing minesweeper when I'm reading this poem... The tone kind of reminds me of it... Be careful what block you pick or a bomb might go off... I enjoyed the 'overanalysis':-) Time flies? Say it not so, time stays we go. |

Very impactful write and your use of metaphors was terrific. I also loved the vocabulary in your lines. It was a joy to read your words again and also to see how much you have grown from when I first read your works. Well done and much enjoyed. |

"Sometimes life gets in the way and you learn to dream smaller and weep a little harder." hmmmm. . . I've been thinking about this. . . and, I wonder. . . I've always been one just to dream bigger. . . this is why I love your work. . . it speaks on so many levels and makes me think and wonder right along with you. . . great work. . . I've missed it. . . --------------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |
