Let's try something a little different this time. I offer you a simple three card spread, known as The Three Fates. The cards were chosen randomly, with no question, and no significator chosen. Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to write a poetic summation (or reading) of the three.

Have fun, and good luck!

--This card represents an important element of the past.

-This card represents a deciding element of the present.

-This card represents a critical element of the future.

Now there you have it. Do with it what you will, but hopefully all three can be incorporated into a single poem. For those of you who are particularly bored with the challenges, and happen to be be adept with forms, I did think that this might make an interesting sonnet, since four lines could be attributed to each card and the "reading" could be summed up in the last two lines, which would give you all the necessary fourteen.

And no, I have no intention of doing it myself.

I'm having too much fun and learning very much about both poetry and tarot just by reading you brave souls who venture into my little realm here.

Thanks for playing! (And the sonnet idea is just an extra teaser btw--as always, I have no rules other than Ron's. Any form, any forum suited to the content is fine by me.)

Blessed be.

I see the page of cups toast to the past
A deed perhaps or memory long gone
Could signify a friendship lost or lapsed
Or simply a missed task you’ve left undone

The six of coins a measure of the now
A weighing of your wit and of your worth
Can designate a choice to make somehow
That may affect your wealth upon this earth

The ace of coins the gate that all must pass
Predicts the ways that summon where you go
It now foretells your rocky path won’t last
And better times shall be all that you know

A fortune in the stars and on the cards
From whit'ling at the language of the bards

It was a breeze - writing bad poetry quickly is a gift.

This reading was for you and I’m a medium (it says so in my underwear) so it’s bound to be correct.

BTW- You misspelt saucy.

Grinch seems to have closed the door on this quite nicely, m'witch

I remember Mikey doing a very nice series of poems on the Tarot....at Madams bidding, I believe?

perhaps I'll go re-read them

Karen,
I know this has been sitting here awhile, as I've visited this subject numerous times
with the idea of giving it a shot. I guess
there are times it takes awhile to collect ones' thoughts. Thanks for the challenge.
Doc

From thoughts concerned with mystic realms,
beginnings prophesied
Imaginitive musings flow detached from earthly deeds
While days in which emotions ruled retreat into the night
Awaken to the present ways and with them new insights

Divine that which to you has worth and weigh who's to receive
A fair assessment's called for now in all that you'd believe
While bound to the material let conscience be your guide
The house of light has many rooms in which one may reside

The strength of your foundations bridges twixt these seperate worlds
One foot in each holds firmly while the future 'round you swirls
Hard work and your convictions hold the key to happiness
A realistic outlook grooms the way for your success

To reconcile the future with the present and the past
Take stock of all that you possess and chose what you'd have last

Drink forth from the cup of dread.
Is it not bitter sweet?
False happiness hanging from a thread.
There is little shame in this thread's defeat.

Justice dangles from the fingers.
Of the "Order-bringers" and "come-to-lingers"
They let the wind shift the weight aimlessly.
And as far as I can see; shamelessly

A hand to cradle the sun, to aim the light.
A road paved to follow.
A symbol to show who to fight.
A voice to be heard, a shame to swallow.

The dreams of dreamers are that of gold.
For the future to be read is never to be told.

Hey Karen,

Someone dug up the old challenge here so I thought I'd take a poke at it.  Hope you're around here enough to catch it.

He stands, a memory upon my shore,
With gallant eyes and promise in his dress.
Unspoken lies… I know I’ve heard before,
I take the cup, for who could proffer less?

Perhaps with one eye chanced upon the scales
To somehow satiate this need for giving…
And all I know Death readily avails
To those afraid to walk among the living.

For while virtue might be its own reward,
I’ve yet to see a path unto the sky
Not drawn with the blood off a minions sword
Or skewed from glitter on the viewer’s eye.

Yes, though I see Heaven above I know
I must walk the wreath of shadow below.

smiling wide...

and I thank my lucky stars...I keep losing my way, but always pop in here to see, and I generally exit humbled by the talent of my very good friends that I made here at Pip.

Thanks. And now I have a date to cast my pearls before swine. (*winks* to Helen)

Don't worry if I'm not here so much. Consider it as...Karen's out gathering new writing material!

I love you all.

Wow this looks hard.  I might give it a go someday, but not right now.  The poems that are posted are very interesting though.

take care,

Rileigh
