Berry Picking in Underwood Family Farm Under the hot California sun, In the shadow of walnut trees I made my lunch a dream Those little souls Who never heard songs From young peaches Giggled with them By the strawberry lawn I cry to the heat to all the smiling faces Of my food in green leaves When I done my sleep. |

You wanted to stay then I had to leave I went into the mountain to sit by the stream Blue sky sifted through golden weaves Green breeze danced with silver lace Summer colors was flower seas Morning wind sighed soft waves I pretended that I was a young sapling Waiting for hives from buzzing bees I collected a handfull of bird’s gleam For the little fish that wandered in team for the solemn pebble who courted his lover, his bubble in rainbow’s theme I jumped from shadow to shadow A hide and seek with summer’s glee in and out of the dream of the tree chased butterfly and spilled his tea I ride back home in Sun’s beam you still sat in sizzling scream I opened the door and turn on the fan For your spring promise, leave. |

Summertime In the revolving weeks and months there comes a time When the sunlight is a curse, the noon a burden When time ekes by a lone cricket chirp at a time And water flees the uplands and hides in valleys A walk is a battle – a struggle against heat Sallying from shade-port across to cool shade port Dodging the million minions of a tyrant sun As all of us below endure the long scalding |

Two trees, Leaves brush leaves, By the sea smiling a rainbow To the setting sun A telescope looks at the sail erasing the last smear of light of faraway and Silently handing over the crown of the night A girl and a boy Against the white railing Kissing passionately They left the summer heat The only hope of growing fruit. |
