Here’s an idea. Write a poem as the character and in
the context of a dream you actually had.

Example:

Michael

Man—
it’s been so long
since I’ve had a shave and a bath—
I feel great.

My unit?
Fifth Century,
Fourteenth.

Well,
they’re blue at first,
but they get dirty real quick.

Oh yah,
little buggers are pretty ticked
when they see us...
but not being
very good
apart from a lucky stroke or two
they don’t give us a whole lot of trouble...
Usually, most of us get back
with those recovered.

I don’t know.

Those that fall seem to disappear.

Rumor has it—
it’s to some place
called Earth.

She whispers upon my waking
‘thank you for your dream’
her life is played out you see
behind my R.E.M. stream

daytime finds her silent
the lady blooms only at night
in darkness she arises
to find nocturnal delight

in translucent worlds she flourishes
she paints, she writes, she sings
she’s socially adept, not shy
she flies on passion’s wings

Her exploits are capricious
no earthly cares has she
not held back by social rule
not held down by society

Her breathless whisper beckons
the day to begin for me
she fades as I awaken
and awaits nights reverie
