THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:

"When an old man dies, a library burns down."--

African Proverb

and? No stipulations, no particular form...just add your own particular spice into this quote, that is actually a poem already...be creative!

When an old man dies, a library burns down
His words all ashes to the windy world
That fanned his eyes to embers end
And no tears now will quench his sentences aflame.

When an old man dies, a metaphor for truth dies too
And by our hand with greedy lies
The world is raped by lunatics and time
And no tears now will turn that tide away

When an old man dies, a young man wails upon the world
And captures hearts and stars within his eyes
The years will stack each book upon a shelf
But no tears now will serve or save him in the end

I even hate to post mine now!! Yours is exceptional my friend. Sigh. Ok..here's mine:

Unlike my friends I knew the power
Of the written and spoken word
So every summer I spent my days
At the knee of Grandpa Byrd

He wove the tales of his rugged youth
read to me the many books he favored
Like the desert sand in drought
I drank each word remembered, savored

when an old man dies, a library burns down
his memories fade though touched by heat
but Grandpa Byrd’s will live on with me
in the place where heart and soul meet

Hey. I was wrong. (imagine that...grin)

no kidding tho, Grandpa Byrd, was such a portrait of character for me..I wanted to BE there (still do)

Easier times...this was Norman Rockwell in my mind. Thank you Sharon. I'm rocking AT YOU, in my chair, here...(I know, I know, it's bad for my back, but how else can I sleep in the forum..grinning...I feel like me arse is molded on Ron's couch!)

Done and done! Posted in open at your request.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown
