When I Have a Problem

If the problem is of the heart
My first instinct is to anesthetize
Sometimes I fight the urge
Sometimes I don’t.
If the problem is of the mind
My first instinct is to scream, ‘I’m right’
Most often I think first
And keep my mouth shut.
If the problem is of the spirit
My first instinct is to apologize
No matter the truth
I’d rather err on the side of caution
And remedy the blame.
If the problem is of the soul
I think long and hard before I react
There are not many things I find so real
As the breath I was given
Just to be here.
