Well, I know that poetry is everything. Almost anything can be made into a poem. Well, I'm just curious to see if any body can write a poem about somethiing I've made up. I don't know if anyone has written one, but I'd like to read one... Here's the challenge. I want someone to write a poem about a cactus in Antarctica. I want to hear how it got there from the desert, how it survives through the rough weather, if it dies, and any little thing you can cook up... I'm just wondering, you know... Good luck! Bye! ------------------ Cammie |

Those big men in the monsterous trucks made a mistake And now the greatest challenge of my life I must undertake I am a cactus in Antartica, you see, and this is my tale And I will tell you my story, of how those men did fail. Just one week ago, I was sitting in the store I called my domicile Then the men came and took me away, many a mile They said I was going to a place I would absolutely adore A place that many cactuses have been to before A place called Arizona, the state as blistering as could be But instead they mistakenly took me to this place, you see When we got here, they knew not what to conclude So they left me here all by myself, me, one lonely cactus dude When I arrived there was all this white and powdery stuff And I knew living here would be way too tough Everything is frozen and I must find a way to survive As a cactus in the snow, I don’t know how I will stay alive. For the past week I’ve done nothing but freeze Rescue me from this icy tundra as soon as you can, please. I need your help I really do, I am fading away fast Because everyone knows, a cactus in Antartica, just can’t last. |

Cammi - this one is for you....and it worked me pretty hard - lol We were going to the concert, my cacti friends, The Grand Canyon Suite, on opening night. Since we were in evasion, (of vegetable persuasion), We wore tuxes to diguise our spikes. The concert was really quite lovely, With its woodwind and drumstick notes. We cacti were discrete in our loge seats, Wrapped up in our long-tailed coats. The sussurations of the woodwinds, Lulled me into a mid-Winter sleep, In which I slept, nearly dormant I bet, Not realizing what was happening to me. It seemed the sweet concert had ended, And the other patrons had found their way out. But I still drempt of being rainfall exempt, And was mistaken for a penguin, no doubt. It seems the vet had been tending a lioness, I think Elsa was the name told me. And the vet got upswept, tho musically inept, And started humming the tune, "Born Free." The vet must have thought I was sickly, When I was brought in to be checked. Because he looked at me, then said, "You'll be freed," And I was quickly rushed off to a jet. Before I knew it, I was at a new concert, With a lot of other patrons in tails. An open-air event (they could've used a tent), Because the ground was covered by something like hail. The air conditioning was turned up to freezing, The landscape was a cold, boring white. I sat there in my tails, colder'n hell, Thinking I'd only be there for the night. But the concert never started its playing, And the night was so dreadfully long. My poor shrivelled roots, there in my boots, Could no longer tap to the beat of a song. And so while I sat there in the Antarctic, I've had time to think, I confess. The next time I sneak into the Grand Canyon Suite, They'll see I'm a cacti with my strapless dress! ta-daaaaa |

Geez, you guys are terrific! I'm going to have to think of harder challenges! Both of you wrote the poem from the cactus' point of view which was great. Angel, nice poem! I really enjoyed it. LngJhnAg, tee hee! After reading your poem I couldn't help but crack a smile. It was wonderful. Great work you guys! ------------------ Cammie |
