If I had but one wish, and it would come true I’d grant that I’d have more days living with you And if that one wish could possibly be It would unleash a thousand more wishes for me If you could live longer, you’d be there each time At your grandson’s games, refereeing from the lines You would take them neat places and teach them to fish And make sure you’d fulfill each little wish If you could live longer we’d fulfill those dreams That we’ve been planning for years now, those wonderful schemes We’d go back to your homeland , build a house by the bay Where you would do nothing but fish every day You’d follow the footsteps of each of your sons And you’d say, proud of you, that’s the way it is done You’d watch the young mother you raised of your own And marvel at how she takes care of her home You wouldn’t miss a birthday, a show or event And take all the grandkids wherever you went And you’d love everyone of them as you well do And they would return all the loving to you This wish is a fantasy, surely you feel But I still have one wish that I know to be real That no matter the days you have left on this earth I wish you those things that have greatest worth Peace and contentment, family and friends Love and devotion and care with no end Faith in the Lord and in your destiny And peace there in heaven for eternity Elizabeth Santos |

Liz, This is a sweet and touching poem. What a wish. If only it were that simple. I love the end. Those things do have the greatest worth. Beautiful writing.
