Carry me back to Mullumbimby,
My heart does reside there,
Rural views with sea fresh air,
No finer place on Earth than there.

Rolling green hills with thigh high grass,
Just begging young and old to frolick and play,
We hold hands and race down the hills,
Chasing the blues away.

Smell the fresh tang of the native Latana,
See it's red/orange/yellow blooms,
It's scent fills the summertime air,
Happiness here, no darkness or gloom.

Mt.Warning in the distance,
The first land sighted in Australia,
She welcomes us all on land and sea,
No finer place can there be.

Twin peaks of Chincogan,
A familiar landmark,
My great grandfather lived at their base,
Such a 'feel' to this place.

The old family home built in 1880,
This is our family place of origin,
Green blowing pastures, dotted with cattle,
The birdlife still sings it's delightful din.

Ten minutes away the land meets the sea,
Australia's most easterly point,
The first place in Australia that sees the morning sun,
My favourite stretch of coast - Byron Bay.

Perched on rugged green cliff face,
Bryon Bay Lighthouse, so familiar to me,
This is the land of my forefathers,
No finer view you will see.

Mullumimby rural haven,
Mt. Warning, Byron Bay,
This portion of the New South Wales coastline,
Is simply a heaven to me.

Filled with history,
Family memories,
Countless holidays we enjoyed here,
Here I am home, here my spirit is set free.

Thanks Isis for momentarily bringing me to Australia. At the moment I saving my all pennies to visit one of closest friends who moved out there last year.

a wonderful poem, it brought back a lot of fond memories of our friendship. I mean I can't even watch Skippy without a tear in my eye but your poem really did it.

a wonderful poem.

Thanks guys!!!  I wasn't too happy with the outcome of this poem I felt the imagery was lacking, and the I wanted to further describe Byron Bay the way the goats hang on the sheer cliffs, like magic, as they are so steep you wonder how they can?  The white dots amongst the green!!
But Brian I am pleased it made you teary, that is all any writer can hope for.
Thanks< !signature-->

I think you described it pretty well Isis, the feeling you get from this land of ours is very hard to put into words. I have been trying for a while to capture the feeling of one of my favourite places, the Barrington Tops..ah well, one day perhaps.

God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it's me. ~Unknown
