(This is different for me, I read this story in class today about the Trail of Tears, and I am part Cherokee so I feel strongly about that story, so this is just a ramble I thought of reflecting on that time...) Cherokee Sun By: Noah Eaton 4/24/02 Ah, I've seen a day with no end A summer with no sun No flag claimed to my nation Ah, you know that I've seen A trail of endless tears Blue-jeaned outlaws placing evictions I've crossed deserts between Walked through thunderstorms of salt My home put into exile I sold my soul to the Raven Mocker Then I won my laurels back Digging my pride from my grave of denial I wave this blue blanket now Whirling my arms like the wings of a butterfly I will be firm With the Great Spirit, I believe we all can fly... Ah, I believe there is a great design For everyone recognized in faith My incentive passed on from my ancestral heritage Ah, why do we sacrifice the dreams of our fathers And war the allied principles of one another And trade the pride to our governments? I tread softly with a purpose for ecstasy To find the charity in thieves Yearning for my prayer to find its consummation I toil to close in the Great Divide And in this territory I wish to be aligned in one simple constellation I wave this blue blanket now Whirling my arms like the wings of a butterfly I will be firm With the Great Spirit, I believe I can fly... I am sunburned But I will remain I am thirsty My cry will be my only necessary refrain I wave this blue blanket now Whirling my arms like the wings of a butterfly I will be firm With the Great Spirit, I believe I can fly... I will remain My cry will be my refrain... [This message has been edited by Mistletoe Angel (04-26-2002 12:04 AM).] |

Over a thousand treatys were made with the native Americans by our government.Every one of them was broken. We have no grounds to be judgmental about ethnic cleansing. It was a part of our history. paladin |

Hi Noah, I loved this piece and this is my favorite line: "With the Great Spirit, I believe I can fly..." Anything to do with Native America(ns) I just adore. Thank you for rambling. Hugs, Marti " My wrinkles are badges of courage and reveal that I am a Mother." |
