A lonely pigeon in a gutter pool, It’s his dreary domain where he can rule, Too small to allow another within, Too small to swim or something else to do, Solitary domain for one not two. Sparrows sing on perches from which they fly, But pigeon cowers as buses rush by, Caught in the swirls of diesel tainted wind, Caught in the destruction of his domain, No where to rule till the next city rain. Amazing how pigeons increase in number, and usually take to the citys, versus the country, to survive...beautiful creatures, and much maligned...there is the off-joke about what creature would survive in a nuclear holocaust - they say the cockroach - well, for the land, yes...and pigeons for the air... Enjoyed the read, now that you've woken the brain, I thank you... |

Thank you, Sunshine, Actually, this is another inspiration from a Chinese Poet, (T'ang). Here is the poem, minus the original Chinese version (to save space)
I used a pigeon instead, being as I don’t see swans in my area, or green birds either. Sometimes reading something sends the mind in a totally different direction, Which is helpful at times. For a fish, I’ll vote for the anchovy, just ‘cause. Gloom [This message has been edited by Professor Gloom (05-23-2002 07:33 AM).] |

You've been watching that bird closely. It's amazing how they can survive in all types of traffic and weather situations....good write! |

I like the differences in your line of thought--you captured the essence well with your pigeon...nice OH. and speaking of taking a different train of thought...this reminded me of Steven Wright, who once said: "You ever notice that you never see BABY pigeons?" grin..it had nothing to with your poem...but? sometimes I just take a different train! |

I like the idea of swans better than pigeons yet, I don't mind feeding them when I se them...after all everything serves a purpose in life... |

(sigh) WOW!!! I never thought of pigeons that way, it seems maybe if they can weather all that diesel and smoke they could survive so much more! (big hugggssssss) This is excellent, sweet friend, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Aszard, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you!
